Message Board Post:
Back in the 1880's my widowered greatgrandfather John McNeal Jr. took
as his second wife, Frances E. Cameron, a daughter of Robert Cameron
of Johnston Street in Newburgh.
She had been John's housekeeper and Nanny since his first wife's
passing in 1875. Franes had two sisters who never married, 'Aunt
Jen', who was a nurse, and 'Aunt Sate' who became Newburgh's Chief
Telephone Operator in about 1920.
John and Frances became the parents of Clayton Cameron McNeal, who
was born about 1895, and was a half-uncle to my father, who was only
six years younger than Great (Half-) Uncle Clayton.
Clayton grew up to a very tall height, and by 1920, had become a
professional chef who traveled from one place to another around the
country, mostly in Florida, Texas, Arizona and California, for the
nest 30+ years. (His mother passed away in 1917.) He married and was
divorced twice, the first time to a divorced lady named Marian
Desmond from Staunton, VA who had a son who attended the militrasy
academy there back in the 1940's, and later to a lady named Lillian
(last name unknown) who I think had been living in Florida. Clayton
never had children of his own. Seeking any family connections to
these Newburgh Cameron folks that might still exist.
