Hi
I have links to Cameron families in the areas you note. You may be
interested in some sources of relevance, e.g. in "Early Rangitikei"
p. 56, Sir James Wilson in talking of members of the McDonell family
refers to one of them marrying "Alick Cameron (another of the
Turakina families, but I must confess, though I have fathomed the
Fraser and McKenzie family, or nearly so, I gave the Camerons of
Turakina up as a bad job. There were four families of the same name
settled there.)" The confusion must have been catching, because the
book "History of the Parewanui District and Schools 1819-1857-1979"
identifies five families, and suggests that Jemima McDonell married
Alexander Cameron, son of Donald Cameron and Mary McPherson (my
ggg-grandparents). However, this could not have been possible
because this Alexander died in 1860, and Jemima married Alexander
Cameron in 1864. The Parewanui book also includes a section on the
McDonells, noting that Jemima was the youngest daughter !
of Archibald McDonell and Annie McRae.
I am not sure if other information in the book is correct, since it
suggests that Jemima could be the Widow Cameron who had the Parewanui
Store in the 1880s, and notes her children as being Thomas Ross
Cameron (married Agnes Flora McDonald, and their daughter Irene
Agnes, 1898-1959, married John E Montgomerie in 1921); John; James;
and Elizabeth Anne, married Charles Lumsden in 1884.
The book "The Beach Highway" by Paul Melody also has a section on the
McDonell family, centring on James McDonell.
