I would appreciate information anyone might have on a factory owned by the Camerons in
Scotland in the 1920's or 30's. About that time, a grandson of Duncan Gaines
Cameron (John Cameron) received a letter as an heir to a Cameron factory. John would
have lived in Ga. at that time. The location of the factory is not known, nor do we know
where in Scotland our Camerons originated. Just in searching the internet, I found a
listing for a John Cameron & Son, Ltd. Tweed Manufacturers, Killin, Stirling Scotland,
historic county of Perth. This was where the first loom for Biltmore Industries was
purchased and brought to NC sometime before 1920.
Duncan Gaines Cameron was born 1785-90 in Scotland (according to a census record) and died
after 1859, probably in Ga. He married Nancy Winters in Orange Co., NC May 5, 1822.
According to a book "Carolina Scots" John Merchant Cameron had 10 children.
Duncan Cameron was one with notation: no further information. I have wondered if this
could be our Duncan Cameron. Even if it is another Duncan, I would appreciate any
information anyone might have in order to eliminate this possibility.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you might provide.
