Hello
I also am researching Cameron's of NC
Actually I have a well defined line in Rowan/Davidson starting earlier than
1790.
Here's where I'd like some help.
Within 50 miles of my oldest Anc John Cameron b. 1740 (proven by headstone)
there seems to be about 5 other John Cameron's all within the same 1790
census.
I would like to see if anyone would like to help thru these various Johns.
So far there seems to be John "merchant", John "Beaver Creek" John
"Governors Creek" and I'm certain of more.
My John ( whom I name "Lick Creek" John") is uncannily similar to what is
know of John Merchant.
Same birth date
Same naming patterns of sons and gr-sons
and more similarities I'd like to compare.
I feel they maybe the same person
but another researcher claims Merchant left the Colonies
because he would not sign a loyalty oath.
I'm interested in proving this or disproving
Another researcher says that since my Clan virtually lived on top of the
great wagon trail
they were likely Scot-Irish from Pa via Va since the Piedmont was
inaccessible from the coast.
Recently I find a well established path inland from Cape Fear early enough
for
it not to be a "stretch" that my line is the Barbeque line and ultimately
from the Ulster Scots
who landed in 1739.
I'm asking anyone interested in the Cameron's of NC to add anything they
feel is relevant.
Thank You all in advance

Subject: [CAMERON] North Carolina Camerons
I am researching Camerons that lived in Barbeque, North Carolina and
Harnett
County. My ancestor is Allen J. Cameron of that are. He married
Catherine
Mclean.I can give more precise dates if anyone would like. Is anyone else
researching this area? There may have been McDiarmids married into my
line
as some of the children had that for a middle name. I may have had the
name
Archibald also, will check my notes later on.. Daughter of Allen, Lorana
Camerin married Tandy Walker of Moore Co., NC>
thanks,
Christine
