Message Board Post:
My grandfather's grandfather is something of a mystery. He lists his
parents as unknown on everything, from the census to whatever he told
his son for his death certificate. My uncle says that Grandpa told
him that this particular ancestor was adopted, and legends have come
up that his name wasn't changed, because it was on a note with him...
only there's no such person.
Why post here? His name was William Cameron Walton. My hunch is
that the name that was left was William Cameron and the Waltons
adopted him and tacked his name on. Cameron is a middle name that's
stuck in the family for five out of six generations, and while it's
trendy enough as a given name now that I never really thought of it,
it definitely wasn't on the hit parade for anyone except actual
Camerons back in 1847.
All I have is a hunch here. There are certainly Camerons around in
his area, but I have no idea if I'm even on the right track. Is
there any way to find something like that out?
