This might be slightly off the subject
But, you mentioned books on Cameron's and I am one who's clan
is Dec of John and/or Absalom of Rowan Nc.
They 1st appear in census in Rowan in 1790 census
but, there are land grants several yrs earlier in Rowan to Absalom.
Now my questions are how they arrived that far inland NC
and,if they are related to the Harnett/Cumberland Camerons.
I am hoping you will research your books for Camerons with connections
between Harnett/Cumberland and Rowan.
Thank You in advance

The book was compiled by John Burton Cameron. Someone sent me a copy
years ago but I don't know where they got it. His address is PO Box 225
Broadway NC I don't know if he would still be around or not.
It is a wonderful book and it seems to be all about your CAMERONS.
If you can't find a copy, I would be happy to copy it for your for the cost
of copying and mailing.
I think we are probably related as my CAMERONS came into Cape Fear area
also.

Hi Christy, This book is a large book on your family.
it starts off with Allen CAMERON of Auchternchity, Scotland where he
married a Mary Stewart of that place. It says he started to America with his
Three sons and arrived in Wilmington NC.
It gives no sources or etc. Just a large family file listing children and
etc
The children seemed a lot like your family
Hugh Archie
Dougald Stewart
John Allen
Daniel Alex
David P
Barbar Isabelle
Sarah margaret
mar Rachel
Does this sound like your family?

Pouring over some old research notes, found this info. I apparently had
run into someone whom was connected to my line. Catherine Cameron mentioned
below was sister to my Lorena (Rena) Cameron and daughter of Allen J.
Cameron and Catherine (McLean).
Name: Mrs Catherine Cameron widow of Angus Cameron
> Gender: Female
> Race: White
> Age: 77
> Birth Date: 26 Apr 1856
> Birth Place: North Carolina, United States
> Death Date: 3 Dec 1933
> Death Location: McNeills, Moore
> Father's Name: Mr A J Cameron
> Mother's Name: Miss Catherine Mc Lean
> burial Johnson Grove Cemetery, Moore co., North Carolina
> Mr A.M. Cameron informant
>
I am also trying to find my McLean connections "Catherine McLean" 's
siblings and/or parents. According to the info below I would guess possibly
Archibald McLean Jr. may have been her brother or father or at least a
cousin?
Cumberland County NC marriage bonds
Allan J Cameron and Catherine McLean 23 Sept 1834, DAniel Munroe
Bondsman, Archd. McLean Jr, witness.
The date is the date the bond was secured not the date of the marriage
More info I had in notes from another researcher.
My Allen J. Cameron is in Harnett, NC on the 1860 through 1880 census.
christy
The legend with my husband's family is that three brothers came from
Scotland together - one settling in the Cameron Hill/Barbecue Church area,
another nearer Lillington, and the third at White Hill (Governor's Creek) in
Moore County. We always thought that was as close as the connection
extended, however, as we probe further into the family tree we are finding
that several of the grandchildren of the Moore County brother, John
"Merchant," married into the families of the other brothers.
There is a distinct possibily that, with time and patience, we can tie these
families together. Do you know the name of the father of your Allen?
Hi All,
Someone sent this to me awhile ago. has anyone else heard this? I am
wondering who John Merchant Cameron's brother was.
christy
My husband's family always referred to that branch as the "Harnett County
Camerons". However, the further I delve into the family, the more
intermarriage between the Moore and Harnett lines are found.
The Moore County Camerons trace their roots back to John "Merchant" Cameron
who settled in the White Hill area about 1774. Family legend states that he
had a brother who came to America at the same time and stopped in the
Cameron Hill/Barbeque area.
My Cameron was Archibald W Cameron b.N.C. in 1812 He lived in Choctaw
Co.Ms at the same tine as Allen Cameron who was a son on John M Cameron
I think they were related some way . I have not been able to find any
