Sorry, Diana. My grandfather was George Cameron Bisset, not George Bisset Cameron. I saw your query and thought it was strange they had the same names, just in a different combination. My grandfather was born 1899 in Carnoustie, Scotland and came to the US in 1925 to Boston. Anne

John N. Cameron born 1905 in Bombay India.
Parents:Father Rev. John Cameron (born in Campbeltown, Scotland 1865. Died in Bambay, India ,1913.) Mother : Isabel (Macrae) Cameron. She and John were married in Bombay, India, 1903. I believe that Isabel was living in Edinburgh, Scotland about 1922, according to her sister in -law, Wilhelmina Camerons' will. If there are any relatives out there I'd like to hear from them.. My connection: my grandmother, Mary Florence( Cameron) Jack, was Rev. Johns' youngest sister.
Hello fellow Listers,
My Great Great Grandmother was Sarah CAMERON, born 1815 in Symington, Ayrshire. Sarah married Charles LEE in
1845 in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who is connected. I am trying to find the names of Sarah's parents, but so far have drawn a blank.
Mary Lea,
N.S.W. Australia
Another name for Sarah that was commonly used is Marion, so I am told and is
the case with by gr, gr, grandmother Marion / Sarah McLean who married
Malcolm Cameron, both of Isle of Tiree, Scotland, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada
on November 28, 1854, after having arrived in Canada in 1851, prior to
settling in Bruce Township, Bruce County, 11th line, Lot 12. By the way
there is going to be a well organized three day Isle of Tiree Gathering in
Guelph Ontario Canada in July, 2004. Those that may be interested let me
know. Cheers, Scott Cameron - Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Hi Rite,
Could you please look up John Mercant Cameron married to Margaret Monroe?
They were in the Harnett/Moore County area of North Carolina in the late
1700s to early 1800s.
Thank you so much.
Marie
Hello, List. I'm brand new to the list and would like to post my interests.
My grandfather was George Cameron Bisset, born 28 Sep 1899 in Carnoustie, Scotland. His parents were Margaret Mann Cameron (b. 1872 I think) and Peter Bisset. Margaret's parents were Thomas Cameron (born, I think, in 1827 in Inchure) and Ann Donald (married either 7 or 14 Oct. 1849). If I take the naming pattern from the list of many children Thomas and Ann had, I believe Thomas' mother may have been Helen Stark. Thomas and Ann's kids are: Margaret Mann, George Donald, Barbara Dunn, Marion Jane Wallace, James, Helen Stark, Grace Kidd, Elizabeth Strang, and Jessie Donald, all born in Monifieth except George Donald, who was born in Forfar. They seem to have been named maybe after some relatives or friends. The dates range from 1850 to 1872. Ann must have had children up into her mid 40's. Do any of these names ring a bell?
Also, can anyone recommend a good book on the history of the Camerons? I do know that Ewen Cameron wasn't the nicest guy in the world (I think that's his name). I would also like to know the motto and mascot of the Clan.
Any information will be gratefully accepted. Anne Godfrey

Elizabeth,
Keeping in mind that this book was written in 1884, I am sorry to
report that none of those places you mentioned (East Ayrshire, Darvel,
Galston or Loudoun) are referenced. If you had specific names and maybe
some dates, I might have a better shot. There is almost an entire
chapter on General Sir Allan Cameron, K.C.B., of Erracht -- sorry, I
can't type that much (pages 318-374). Briefly, that line runs as
follows:
Donald born shortly before 1715, married Marsali or Marjory,
daughter of MacLean of Drimmin, Morvern
Allan of the 79th Cameron Highlanders, who married Anne,
eldest daughter of Nathaniel Philips of Sleebeich Hall, Pembrokeshire,
with issue (below). He died at Fulham, Middlesex, March 9, 1828.
Philips was killed at Fuentes D'Onor and died
unmarried.
Nathaniel, Lieutenant-Colonel, 2nd battalion of
his father's regiment. He married Loetitia Pryce, only daughter of Rev.
John Cuny, with issue:
Nathaniel Pryce who married Charlotte
Mary, only daughter of the late Loftus Tottenham, Clenade, County
Leitrim, with issue -- two children, who died young.
William Booth Joseph St. Agnes, Cornwall,
who married Elizabeth, daughter of W. Morris, eithout issue.
Loetitia Pryce residing in Brighton
Mary Anne who married J. W. Bruce,
Duffryn, St. Nicholas, Glamorganshire with issue (I can go down this line
further, if you want) (page 374)
Charlotte Mayzod Marcella who married E.
M. Elderton, of the Temple, London, and the Grove, Surrey, without
surviving issue.
Georgiana
Caroline Augusta
Frances Ann Grey
Alan Louisa Catherine
Rosetta Phillippa who married Charles T.
Eustace, Robertstown County Kildare, Ireland, without issue
Ewen, killed in the Peninsula, unmarried
Marcella )
Anne ) all of whom died unmarried
Diana )
Donald
Ewen who died unmarried
3 daughters one of whom married Mr. Cameron of Scamadale
Hope something in here helps you!

Looking for relatives of a Stanley Cameron, lived in Kalamazoo, MI; possibly died in Arizona. My father-in-law has past away and among his belongings we found something that originally belonged to a Stanley Cameron -- made between 1890 and 1923. If this was one of your ancestors, you may be very interested. Please contact me for more more information. laura(a)marknlaura.com

I'm biting the bullet.
I'm going with the Clunes line, there is tooooo much data suggesting that this IS the right line . It's very, very convincing, and I'm very confused.
I think the confusion is one of the reasons my Cameron lines suffers from my lack of attention. :0)
THANKS ALL

Maybe we are talking about two different people??
I have a photo of the headstones for Lady Mary Cameron of Glen Nevis and John
Cameron of Clunes. They are on the plot of land they farmed in Glengarry,
Ontario. They are in a very small plot called Cameron Cemetery.

Andrea,
I know you and the listers have been having quite a discussion.
I am no expert, but this is what the book "The History of the Camerons"
by Alexander MacKenzie has to say. Keeping in mind that this book was
written in 1884, and therefore, closer to those events so long ago, I
hope it helps and doesn't muddy the waters even more! (Maybe Mr.
MacKenzie's book was written with errors, too.)

4. Mary, who on June 23, 1762, married James Cameron,
Fort-William, with issue:
(1) Allan, a Captain in the Lochaber Fencibles, factor for Lord
Macdonald, and latterly residing at Calgarry Castle, Mull [see"Camerons
of Callart"].
The Camerons of Callart (pages 381-384)
This family is the first that branches off from the main stem, and is
therefore the oldest cadet family of Lochiel. The Camerons of Callart
are descended from John, second son of Allan "Mac Dhomh'uill Duibh", 12th
chief, by this wife, Marion, daughter of Angus Macdonald, second of
Keppoch, and great-grandson of Robert II of Scotland through his
daughter, Lady Margaret, who married John, first Lord of the Isles. [see
page 34] From this family sprung the Camerons of Lundavra, Cuilchenna,
and other cadets, many of whom have distinguished themselves in the Army,
Navy, Civil Service, at home and abroad, and in the learned professions.
They are generally known in the Highlands as "Sliochd Ian 'ic Ailein," or
the Descendants of John, son of Allan" of Lochiel. They followed the
banner of their chief under Montrose and Dundee, as well as in the
'Fifteen and 'Fifty-five. It is impossible now to trace some of them at
all genealogically, and one of them beyond the last Stuart Rising in
1845-46. There are several branches of the family, but the following are
the only two that we have been able to trace to date: --
Allan Cameron of Callart fought at the Battle of Culloden, was
married and had a son
James Cameron on June 23, 1762, married Mary, daughter of
Colonel Alexander Cameron of Glenevis, at the house of Acharn, the
residence of her cousin, Cameron of Glendasseray, by the Rev. J.
Macintyre. By this lade, James Cameron had issue 4 sons and 2 daughters:
Ewen, a banker in London, born October 20, 1763,
who married first on March 23, 1793, Catharine, daughter of Captain F. H.
T. Fortesque of the Royal Navy, London, by whom he had 2 daughters --
Catharine and Mary. Catharine married a Mr. Nairn, and went to
Australia, and Mary married Mr. Walkinshaw, a solicitor, and died without
issue. Ewen married, secondly, in Glasgow, Mrs. King, a widow, with
issue -- 2 sons, Hyndman, an ensign in the army, and James, both of whom
died unmarried.
Allan, born February 27, 1765.
Alexander born April 26, 1767. He died in
infancy.
Charles born April 21, 1769. He also died in
infancy.
Isabel born November 14, 1768, and married
Alexander Cameron, brother of Major Allan Cameron of Lundavra, with issue
-- Allan, George and John.
Jean born July 21, 1771. She died unmarried.
Allan (the second son of James above) was Captain
and Paymaster in the Lochaber Fencibles, raised in 1799, by Donald
Cameron of Lochiel, and disbanded after a few years' service in Ireland,
at Linlithgow, in July 1802, when some of the men were drafted into the
79th Regiment. Captain Cameron was afterwards factor for Lord Macdonald
in North Uist for 27 years, and resided at Lochmaddy. In 1799, he
married Mary, daughter of Duncan Campbell, Ardgour House with issue:
James born at Lifford, in Ireland, on
February 8, 1801; died unmarried at Lochmaddy in 1822.
Duncan Campbell born at Lochmaddy on July
4, 1804; died in infancy.
Ewen Alexander born January 28, 1806;
married in 1831, Sybella, daughter of Colonel Murray of Kirkleton,
Dumfriesshire with issue -- Matthew James, who married Edith Cotes, with
issue -- 1 daughter Eveline, who resides at Park House, Holmwood Park,
Brighton.
Allan who became the representative of
the family.
John born on October 7, 1817, and
emigrated to New Zealand, where he married Anne Sutherland, with issue --
4 sons, Allan, John, Hector, James, and a daughter, Mary.
Colin John born March 19, 1819, and died
young.
Anne Abercromby born at Ardgour House
September 10, 1788. She died unmarried.
Mary Isabella who married Rev. John Lees
in 1833. He was chaplain to the Royal Caledonian Asylum, London, and
afterwards minister of Stornoway. They had (1) the Rev. Dr. James
Cameron Lees of St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, who, on February 7, 1872,
married Rhoda Clara, second daughter of Major Rainsford Hannay of
Kirkdale, Kirkcudbrightshire with issue -- John Cameron, born December 2,
1878; Arthur Stanley, born November 8, 1881; Mary Constance; and Mary
Isabella Cameron; (2) John; (3) Allan Cameron who went to New
Zealand and married Fanny, daughter of Stent of St. John's Hill,
Wanganui; and (4) Donald.
Louisa born September 7, 1807.
Jane who married Donald MacLean, M.D., in
1842, without issue. He was the son of the Rev. Niel MacLean, minister
of Tiree.
Allan was succeeded, as representative of the
family, by his eldest surviving son,
Alexander Wentworth Cameron (he is
listed as Allen above ???) born October 9, 1810, and married on July 8,
1852, Isabel Margaret, daughter of the Rev. Niel MacLean, minister of
Tiree with issue --
Allan born July 3, 1857, and
emigrated to New Zealand in 1879.
Niel MacLean born November 23,
1858, and emigrated to the United States of America in 1883.
Mary Jane who, on October 9,
1873, married W. A. MacLeod, late tenant of Scorrybreck, with issue -- 1
son and 5 daughters: Donald, Mary Anna, Isabel Alexa, Helen, Louisa, and
Mabel. Mr. MacLeod went, with the family, to New Zealand in 1883.
Isabel Macdonald
Mary Flora
Harried Louisa who accompanied
her brother Allan to New Zealand in 1879.
Lillias Margaret
Mary Isabella Lees who died in
infancy.
Alexander Wentworth was succeeded, as
representative of the family, by his eldest son, Allan, who emigrated to
New Zealand in 1879, as stated above.
Your welcome (I think). I have gone down several paths myself and have been
VERY sure of their data, only to find out later that my assumptions were
wrong. Ouch that hurts!!
It keeps us going however to learn more about these mysterious people.
