Hi fellow Cameron's -
Reposting my interests:
Archibald CAMERON b about 1793 came to Nova Scotia 1818, settled in Five
Islands Colchester County. He married Jennet HANNING in 1822 and had 3
sons and 8 daughters between the years of about 1823 to 1848. Of the 3
sons, as far as we can tell, only George married and had children.
Andrew and John were lost in separate shipwrecks, John in 1861 in the
wreck of the "Quickstep" and Andrew in the wreck of the "Pratt vessel"
in 1871. The 8 Cameron sisters were: Jane (Mary Jane?) who married David
MORRISON, Lorinda who married Reuben LANK, Agnes who married Alexander
TAYLOR, Mariah, Elizabeth, Helen, and Margaret, Mary (Jean?). Of the
last 5 sisters, I believe that at least one and possibly 3 may also have
married other LANK family members. It is said that Alexander Taylor is
the son of John Parr Taylor and the grandson of Eleazer Taylor, a
veteran of the American Revolution.
As well as finding out where Archibald Cameron came from and who his
parents/siblings were, I would also be interested in hearing from anyone
who is researching the Lank or Taylor surnames.
Hoping to someday strike it lucky!!
Cheers from Nova Scotia,
Judi Graham

hi everyone,
I am a new subscriber to this list and am wondering whether any of you
are descended from the family of DONALD CAMERON and ANN WATSON, who
married in 1843. There were six children of the marriage - James, John,
Margaret, William, Janet and Ann. My husband is descended from James,
who became a blacksmith and farmer of Maryculter. We believe at least
one of these Camerons went to Canada.
Donald Cameron was born in Aldearn, Nairnshire.
Cheers,
Anne Daun.
Michael:
Recently I posted some Cameron families who were living in Vaudreuil Township (near the Ontario/Glengarry border) in the period around 1810-1840. Several were in the parish/town of St. Polycarpe. You could find some in that region, or other areas around Montreal, I believe. A lot of parish registers for Quebec are published. Ontario seems more difficult, alas.
Good luck!

I haven't posted for some time so I thought I would try again. I
am still trying to find out where Ewen and Bridget were married and where
their first children were born other than "Lower Canada". I seem to
remember some place in Quebec where some Camerons lived, mentioned within
the last several months. I would be grateful for any ideas on where to look
for them. Ewen was supposed to have come from a fairly large family.
Bridget worked for Ewen's parents and possibly came to Canada by herself or
with some of her brothers.
Many thanks!

Peg Vodicka of Wi and me too!! would be delighted if you note either of these
telling phrases:
James Grant CAMERON 1812- 1891
<any> CAMERON connected with Hopewell NS
Cheers.........
ALISTAIR
I do not find a James Grant Cameron or the mention of Hopewell.
But I DO FIND... the mention of James Malcolm Cameron's wife Lillas Jean
Sutherland (please see Peg's last post to me). This mean's that James M.
Cameron and James Grant Cameron were somehow related through Captain Charles
Sutherland by marriages.
I also just noticed that Pitchers Farm was sold to Donald Cameron from a
Duncan Cameron. (soo many Duncan's, Donald's, John's etc....).
Take care,
Dean

Hi Dean,
All I know is that he was married probably in St. Louis, Missouri in the
early 1900's to a Stella Rebecca (maiden name McKenzie). She was born in 1895
and died in 1976. The were divorced somewhere around 1930. Sorry I don't have
more information. That is why I am hoping you can help me.
Thank You,
Deborah
Hi Dean - Thanks for the lookup offer. Archibald CAMERON came to Five Islands,
Colchester Co, Nova Scotia from Scotland in 1818 at age 24. We don't know where
he came from or anything about him prior to this. He married in 1822 and settled
in Five Islands area. Would like to find out about his ancestors and place of
birth. Is there anything in the book which might connect him to the Donald
Cameron you mention?
Cheers,
Judi Graham

Dear Dean:
Would you be able to check your "new Cameron book" for an Ewen Cameron born
abt. 1820, married Margaret (?). They had five children: Donald,
Catherine, Mary A., and two daughters names unknown. Ewen's family was to
have immigrated from Scotland to Nova Scotia. I know two of the children,
Catherine and Mary A. were born in Alexandria, Ontario in early 1850's. So,
Ewen and Margaret had moved on from Nova Scotia by then. They are very
elusive so I am grasping at straws here. Thanks for anything you might
find.

For those looking for a connection to Scotland:
This book has 95% info. related to Pitchers Farm in Antigonish NS.
This is what is said about Scotland:
"The rent roll of the parish of Kilmonivaig in Lochaber district, 1805 list
one Samuel Cameron. This was the father of Donald Cameron the Pioneer.
Nothing is known of Samuel today, other than that as an elderly man he came
with his son Donald and possibly another son Hugh, to Antigonish County, Nova
Scotia, in 1820 (maybe 1819 or 1821)...........Not all the family came the
records of Kilmonivaig Parish show Niel son of Samuel Cameron, Wester
Invergloy, baptized 17 may 1795. In due course Donald named one of his sons
Neil.
One other piece of information:
Donald's wife Isabella was a Cameron too. She was related to The Most Rev.
John Cameron D.D., Bishop of Antigonish.
Dean
I have no mention of McKenzie Head. It does have James Malcolm Cameron's
lineage.
James M. Cameron son of John George Cameron and Ada Frances Jaynes, John
George Cameron's father was John Cameron m. Harriet Jane Pushie. He was the
son of Donald Cameron and Isabella Cameron. John was born 1843 Pitchers Farm.
James M. Cameron was born 15 July 1913.
I have his service record, much, much family history.
Are you related Peg?

Dean,
I have no idea where Levander came from. All I know is that he was in SC by
1798, whether he was born there or came from somewhere else is another
question. I also know that the last census I find him in is the 1820 Marion
Co., SC census and he is under the name Leven. The the family shows up in MS
by 1828,(tax list) he does not show up. In the 1830 Marion Co., MS census,
his wife, Hester shows up as head of household. I am to the point where I am
looking everywhere.
