George Cameron married Helen C. Emerson Nov. 1861 at Tingwick, Quebec.
George died 1928 at Montreal.
I am looking for information on George and Helen. Have other family
info I can share.
Judith
Hello list, I have been tracking down other surnames in my family lately. I
have to be honest and say that they all seem MUCH easier to find than my
Cameron's. I have found other members in these families that are also
researches that have given me LOADS of information. I have also found family
members that I could return the favor and supply history to them. Many of
these families we have traced back into the early 1600's. Sorry for the
tutorial, I am now back to the HARD work. I still am looking for the
parents of John J. Cameron. I am also looking for where the family went
after 1888 in Wadena, MN.
Bob Cameron, about 6 mos. ago you sent me info. on a John Cameron m. Flora
McDonald form 1851-52 Kenyon Twp. There is a John listed as 8 years old
which would put him in the same year as my John. I found him again in the
same family in the Parish records of St. Finnan's Church. He was christened
25 May 1844. Census records that I have for John J. Cameron would indicate
he was born in the last quarter of 1844 but I would like to pursue this lead
further if you can help me.
Was John, Sr. b. in Scotland?
Do you have further census info. on this family?
Are they related to you?
The interesting part of this is that John J. Cameron had a neighbor. Daniel
Cameron was the son of Allen Cameron and Christine McDonald. They had
several children. They had a Flora, Donald (Daniel) and Catherine. Daniel had
a son Alex. If we can find a connection it would help me explain their being
such close neighbors. They would be cousins (maybe).
Thank you all and I hope everybody is finding lots of Cameron's!

Hi Cameron's
I have a letter written by a Susie Cameron Morgan, dated January 11, 1934.
In this letter she tells the history of her Cameron family. The problem I
have is that some of the facts don't mesh with mine and I'm wondering where
the break is. I'll give you the basics, if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
the following is an excerpt from the letter: " Donald Cameron, with his wife
and 17 children, landed in NY in 1696. There were 3 sets of twins; Alexander
and James, Donald and David..and Thomas and Benneham (as the scotch call it).
William and John Stephen were the other sons. I remember only three of the
daughters names: Amarintha, Sara, Elizabeth and Julia Ann, O yes, and
Emiline, who or when they married I never heard papa say.
Donald Jr. settled in PA and at one time was called a steel king. He and papa
corresponded for a number of years. He wrote Papa that he knew they were near
relatives and he wanted more of the history of the Camerons who went South.
David remained in NY, Benneham Sr. settled in North Carolina near Raleigh,
and his decendants are wealthy tobacconists.
William Sr. settled in Va. His grandson Wm. E. Cameron was Governor of VA
during the Reconstruction Days. He died in Petersburg Va last winter (1933)
near 90. While Papa and Mama were visiting me in 1902, Papa met Gov. Cameron
down at the Capitol. Papa told the Gov. the resemblance between him and his
father was so striking it shocked Papa, as his father (your great
grandfather) had been dead 50 years. Gov. Cameron said "you are enough like
my father to be his twin. I know you are a Cameron. Which one of the original
boys are you?"
I recently received some information on a Donald Cameron that arrived in NY
in 1696 with his 17 children. This included 3 sets of twins.
Anyone out there in Cameron land have this family in your history? I'm
trying to connect it to my specific line of Camerons and I have doubts that
it is in fact one of mine.
Thankyou
Dena

Dear Cuzzins: found the following data on Scioto Co., OH, Biographies at:
http://www.scioto.org/Pike/bios/perry.html
first go to http://www.Scioto.Org/Adams/ and then to histories links.
The surnames are so listed that when one clicks on a particular surname, you
will get the bios [completed] for the entire township. And - within the
bios are included many more surnames.
This is really a tremendous site and the compilers deserve a big "Thank You"
for their body of work.
Good hunting - good luck! Have a great week-end!

Christian Cameron, farmer, stock-raiser and dealer in stock, was born in
Pike County 13 Mar 1818, and is the eldest son of Alexander and Susannah
(Beaver) Cameron. He was reared a farmer, and experienced all the hardships
of pioneer life. He has made a specialty of fine sheep, and was the first to
introduce thoroughbred sheep in this part of the country. He was married 04
Mar 1840 to Esther, daughter of John and Mary M. (Ferneau) Core, who were
natives of Maryland and Virginia respectively, and settled near Cynthiana OH
about 1812. Mr. and Mrs. Cameron have had eight children born to them, of
whom seven survive. He has served two terms as Township Assessor, and he and
wife belong to the United Brethren Church, of which he has served as Steward
and Trustee a number of years. He is at present Trustee of the parsonage.
His father was born in Scotland, and when thirteen years old, in 1800, came
to America with his parents, Daniel and Catherine Cameron. In 1804, he came
to Ross County OH, where his mother died, and in 1808 they removed to Pike
County, where his father died, aged 100 years. Alexander Cameron died at the
age of sixty-five years, and his wife when forty-three years of age.
John Cameron, farmer, stock-raiser and dealer in stock, was born 16 Sep 1821
in Pike County. On arriving at manhood, he engaged in farming and has since
followed agricultural pursuits, and has one of the most desirable farms in
the township. He was married 20 Dec 1850 to Sarah, daughter of John and
Christina Ferneau, who were the first settlers of Perry Township. Ten
children have been born to them, of whom seven are living, six sons and one
daughter. Mr. Cameron and wife are members of the United Brethren Church, of
which he is Trustee. He has filled the office of Trustee of Perry Township,
off and on, for thirty years. His parents, Alexander and Susannah (Beaver)
Cameron, were natives of Scotland and Adams County OH, respectively. They
reared five children, of whom three are living: Christian, John and
Alexander. Mr. Cameron followed farming through life, and died in Pike
County, aged sixty-five years. His wife died several years previous.
