Today I received a reply from Sir Donald at Achnaberry, Scotland, indicating
that he would be at home to receive us in July, on my first visit to
Scotland! This is so exciting for me, and I'd like to thank John Lehman and
Carol Crookham-Holstein for their advice on the Clan Cameron Website, which
led me to this information.

Lucky lucky you! So's you'll have a good background to your visit, you
would probably want to learn more about Achnacarry. Here's some of my
learnin'
In earlier days, the family had a wee steamer "RIFLE" which was used on
the lochs nearby, for freight transport mainly agricultural.
The old Achnacarry Post Office is quite close to the Chief's house, it
is now the Clan Cameron Museum. In there, is a souvenir book of photos,
the last visit of Sir Donald and Lady Margaret to New South Wales.
Next to Achnacarry there is the ruin of the previous home, destroyed by
the English. Ask to see it. A sombre memorial. Incidentally, in UK it is
not permissible to demolish a Ruin without Planning Permission!
As you enter the front door, I guess you'll be led into the room first
on the right. Make sure you see the view out the side windows [plural],
of a delightful burn that wanders thru the grounds. See the glass-
topped display case of historical CAMERON items.
As Lochiel had a central role in the drive south of Bonnie Prince
Charlie, culminating in the defeat at Culloden, you might like to read
about the Jacobite events around that time.
Do try and get to Glenfinnan, not too far away: that's where Bonnie
Prince Charlie landed from the sea and began his tragic drive to recover
the British crown.
Best not focus too much on religious matters, these were a paramount
part of the '45 upheaval. I believe that Sir Donald is Episcopalian.

Thanks for explaining that, I am new to this List and felt a bit
disoriented. Now for something Completely Different!
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I descend from John Cameron who marr Christina McDonald in parish
Contin, Ross- shire, 1798. They lived at Strathgarve probably as
employees or tenants of Thomas Mackenzie of Ord.
Around 1805 they settled at Ardnagrask Croft, that's in parish Urray,
about 2 kM up the Corrie Road from Muir of Ord village. The neighbouring
crofts are Croftnabual and Teandalloch. I have family still living
there.
Connecting surnames include LOGAN HENDERSON MACKENZIE MORRISON CAMPBELL
[duh!]
This family was clustered almost entirely, in parish of Urray. Wee
numbers were in Kiltarlity, also Urquhart and Logie Wester.
The first CAMERON families to settle in Ross- shire are said to have
been in HILTON, that's on the N side of the old road east from Muir of
Ord toward the Kessock Ferry. A cairn that was noted there in the 1930s
has apparently been "lost".
As the surnames I listed are VERY COMMON in Ross- shire, I draw
attention to the parishes named especially Urray, and request enquiry
from any Listers who share those surnames in "my" locations.
Cheers..........

Hi Eddie, can you give me the two sons names that you found in OK, IT in
1900? I have a strong family Cameron line in OK late 1800s and early
1900.s..maybe they connect. Thanks. Sunny (azuredaze(a)aol.com)
I have a George W. Cameron that I am desperate to find parents for. He was
married in 1839 in Livingston, Ky to Sarah Jones, daughter of Lewis Jones.
Census state his place of birth as Tenn. Could he possibly be your George?
I have no sibling names for him, have spouse and children, etc. George and
Sarah had a son Eli while still in Ky, then in 1850 they are found in
Randolph County, Ark, with my ggrandfather as a baby, Eli is still in the
household and is listed as 10, but now Susan Cameron is listed as his spouse,
they also had a daughter named Elizabeth. I have other info if any of this
sounds familiar. I cannot find George after the 1870 census in lawerence
County, Ark, but two of his sons locate in Oklahoma I.T in 1900.
Thanks,
Eddie Mills Dugger
Received these today upon returning from vacation..thought I'd share them
with the list and perhaps find a connection with another Cameron researcher.

Hey Folks,
In regard to Sheryl leaving her message about her being
out of her office, I would like to comment that this is not an
Answering Service, this is strictly for Genealogy Research.
I strongly recommend that in the future, that the continuance
of this by her or anyone else, making posts of this nature,
will be at risk of being unsubcribed .

I am looking for information on my grandfather, William Archibald
Cameron. He was born Aug 21, 1879 in Wauseon, Fulton county, OH. He died
Aug 16, 1941 in Rockford, IL. He married my grandmother about 1910. They
had 4 children, Mary (Marie) Adele, Pearl Mae, Lyle Robert and Zilpha.
Their first child, Mary, was born March 11, 1913. I do not know when
they got married or what Grace's maiden name was. Her maiden name was
either Kingsley or Bratley. Does anyone out there know which one it was?
She was born in Wisconsin about 1894 but that is all I know.

Hello to all list users,
Been pretty quiet for awhile, guess you folks have all been 'digesting'
the June "Readers Digest "article on the growth of ancestral research.
A good article in general but what boogles the mind are the mathematics
regarding descent over just eight generations.Fantastic figures, but read the
book.
Never realized just how much research has been done into one of my
forbearers,John of Clunes.Remember him? He's the Cameron that with Lady
Mary Cameron his wife and family of eight came to America in 1773 and
settled in the Mohawk Valley.
Have recentley come across two good books on this line of
descent, unfortunately, they are local books, one being, " The Geneology of
John Cameron and Lady Mary Cameron of Cornwall Township "
The other is called" The Cameron Saga" and was jointly composed by John
and Marys descendents from Ontario and Florida and was put together several
years ago. At the present time I only have brief exerts but expect a copy
from my cousin in the near future.
I've already noted conflict in some information, i.e. the birthyear for
Alexander Cameron of 1st Batt.,KRRNY and son to John and Mary.
The Cameron Saga gives the year as 1755, the 1931 book,Kings Royal
Rifles of New York muster role gives the year as 1762. Any further
information would be appreciated.

Dear Lists:
I received a letter by snail mail from a lady asking if our Camerons were
related. I don't have any of her line in mine, but I thought to post her
line on a couple of the lists I'm on to see if maybe any of you might be a
connection to her before I write her back as she is not on-line. You may
email me if you think you are a connection and I will send any info on to
her. Please include a snail mail address and email me at home, not to the
list. Thank you in advance and I apologize for any duplications. Heather
