Neil: I have very little information on my gr-gr-grandparents but will share
what I have.
John Cameron is said to have been born in Edinbourgh,Scotland, date unknown,
married Jane Caldwell, birthdate unknown,. said to have been born in Edinbourgh,
Scotland also. I have a picture of them in Ontario, Canada probably c
1840-1860's. John died at age 92 and Jane Caldwell Cameron died at age 88.
They had several children:
1) Catherine Cameron, b.May 22, 1852, born either Canada or Connecticut, died
January 24, 1927, Fort Worth, Texas. She married James Alexander Cameron at
Forest Ontario, Canada on September 27, 1875, my g-grandparents. Catherine was
his second wife. Wife #1 was Fannie J. Taylor on August 10,1866.
2) Clan Alen Cameron, b. unk. dd.unk.
3) Donald Cameron, photo Port Huron, Michigan.
4) Mary Cameron, photo, Port Huron, Michigan. Married ___ McDonald.
5) Mary (female) Cameron married ____ Symington, photo Ontario, Canada.
On the other side of the family: James Alexander Cameron married Marion _?_
Cameron. Both were born in Glasgow, Scotland. There is some veracity as to the
correctness of this information as there is a Hugh (Hew) and Nancy Cameron that
may in fact be the parents. JA lived to be 90 and Marion to 84.
Children of this union are:
1) James Alexander Cameron, b. May, 1836; died 1917 at Fort Worth, Texas. As
listed above, he married Catherine Cameron.
2) female Cameron, married ____Anderson.
3) Robert Cameron, photo Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.
4) Mary Cameron, married Alexander John McCleod.
If you need further information let me know. I really haven't had the time to
research the Scottish side further. Hope to get to that in the next six months
to a year.

Jenny:
I am Scots-born, but Australian. Many Camerons came from traditional Clan
territory but certainly not all. Mine go back to Donald of Loch Knock on the
southern hebridean island of Islay. His son Malcolm moved with his family to
the mainland at the time of the potato famine. There are indications that
the family used the name of MacGillonie (or McAloney) as late as 1740
although the books would have us believe that this family was absorbed into
Clan Cameron by 1600. Some Camerons come from lowland Fife too of course,
associated with place names there. Have you contacted Clan Cameron
Australia?
Best wishes.

Kathy,
How do you access the Pennsylvania records that are mentioned in this
message? I still am looking for someone from Butler Co., PA who has
information about George E. Cameron. Perhaps this is a lead. Don't
know where to look.
Greetings All
So many of you seem to be tracing Camerons in the USA and in Canada.... I am
trying to work out from where in Scotland 'my' Cameron came from.
Unfortunately, I am waiting for advice from my mother so I can start the
search where it ended - in Tasmania.
However, my mother is certain that her grandfather (James Cameron) came from
the north of the Scottish highlands (not around Fort William where the seat
of Lochiel is, I think).
For those who have traced their Camerons to (or from) Scotland: could you
let me know which area (town etc) they came from? Any other information -
such as locality name .... would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Jenny

According to the Compton Encyclopedia--1950 edition,
Simon Cameron (1799-1899), state "boss" in American
politics, born Donegal, PA; senator; secretary of war
under Lincoln 1861-62; minister to Russia; passed
control of Republican party in PA to son, James D.
(1833-1918).
Hope this is beneficial to you.

What I need is Simon CAMERON's roots. Where he came from, his parents,
siblings, wife & children. I know about his political career. I'm trying to
see if there is a connection to my CAMERON family from Dauphin County. The
only thing I ever find on him is info on his career..there's nothing about his
personal life. You stated that he was 100 years old when he died. You said
he lived from 1799-1899. Is this correct?
Where is Donegal, PA..what county?
Thank you,
Kathy
Would like to hear from anyone who knows of Sen Simon CAMERON's roots. The
county of CAMERON, PA was named for him. I believe he was born in early
1800's in Dauphin County, PA. He might be a relative of mine. My CAMERONS
lived in Dauphin County at the same time but previously went by
KEMMERER/KAMMERER. My family also lived in Lancaster County, PA for a while.
Kathy

I believe that if you will look up the Lunenberg County, VA, book The Old Free
State, it has a fairly lengthy discussion of John CAMERON the preacher, and
apparently the one you are interested in. Good luck. Zou Feagin

Hello Louise
Perhaps we can connect our lines on some level. My ancestry
includes various branches of Camerons, some of which originated in Tyree.
Catherine CAMERON (b.c1803, Isle of Tyree, Scotland - d. Apr 12,
1894 . in Usborne Twp., Huron Co., Ont). She was married in Scotland to
Archibald McIINNES (b.c1796,"Highlands of Scotland"- d.Dec. 9, 1885 Usborne
Twp., Huron Co, Ont) They became parents of 13 children - at least two of
whom were born at Tyree.
According to Catherine's obituary, the family emmigrated to
Dalhousie, Lanark Co., Ontario circa 1834. They remained there until circa
1853 when they relocated to Usborne Twp., Huron Co. The two oldest "known"
children were daughters:
Flora CAMERON married John Cameron son of Thomas and Agnes (Hill)
CAMERON from the Glasgow area to Dalhousie Twp in 1821. Flora and John were
early settlers in Usborne Twp. in 1851/2 (my line)
Euphemia CAMERON married John P. CAMERON, "no relation to the other
John" and also of Dalhousie. This couple resided in Usborne but had no
children Their family bible was inherited by Flora's only son Thomas
CAMERON and remains in the twp. today.
John P. CAMERONentered in the bible that he was born on the" Isle of
TIRREE, Scotland in November 1825" but it is not known if there is any
family connection with Catherine CAMERON.
Do any of the above sound familiar? I would appreciate hearing of
your CAMERON connection.

Hi all,
I appreciated Donna Witt's Historical Notes on Duncan Cameron, Etc.
Also
of interest to me would be the Cameron's who came from North Carolina to
Georgia.
I am trying to find out the parents and siblings of a Murdock Cameron ,b.1800
in NC, who married a Flora ____?. They lived in Harris County in Ga in the
mid 1800's. One of their children, Henry Cunningham Cameron, b. about 1847 in
Whitesville, GA had a daughter who married Theo Bartow Matthews, of Talbot
County, GA, in the early 1900's.
Other children of N. Murdock Cameron and his wife, Flora, as listed on the
1850 census of Harris County, GA, were:
Archibald P. , age 10
John age 13
Robert A. age8
Sarah M. age 6
Henry Cunningham age2
Neal M. age 4
Any clues to other family members would be greatly appreciated. I have hit a
wall with both Murdock and Flora Cameron, my gr-gr-grandparents.

Donna, I enjoyed reading your story of family history. What a wonderful account
of lives long past and such a welcome and refreshing change from the usual
"born ___ died ___" accounting that we normally see. Thanks for sharing!
