Do you know where they went in TN?? for some strange reason, my g-
grandparents picked up and went to Jasper, TN for the birth of my grandmother,
Eugenia, in the mid 1870's. They seemed to have migrated everywhere in the
Southeast with little relationship to "normal" migration patterns. Just
grasping at straws..... Thanks Zou zfeagin(a)aol.com
Thank you very much. I think 1797 might be a little late for our John and
Daniel as they were born c. 1740/45. I don't recognize any of the other names
and as far as I know, our Camerons went to Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas.

Hi, nothing definite, but thought I would see if any of this means any thing
to you. I have a Thomas CAMERON, b. about 1797 in NC, probably Cumberland
County, with sons John and Daniel. Then I also have another or possibly the
same John (A.) who I have listed in Lee County, GA., in 1870. Note that one of
John A.'s grandsons is Henry Allen. What I have on them is below, although I
have apparently some good info on Thomas's wife's father, Gilbert CLARK, also
from Cumberland and Moore County. The FEAGINS that are listed have roots in
Moore County by way of the old Cheraws for a few years, and then Jones
County,GA. Let me know if you recognize anything!!! Zou Feagin

Hi List Members,
In addition to Maudeen's post above, here is the little bit I know:-
My main research area is in Barbados where I was born, but my
intrests in the CAMERON name is through my husband's line who came
from Scotland to New Zealand where I now live.
Although hundreds of Scots were indentured to Barbados, the Cameron
name was not a 'heard of' name on the island, as in comparison to Campbell,
McKenzie, Fraser and others. However, I did read in one of the Cameron
history books (by John Stewart) that John Cameron of Fassifern
(Inverness, Scot) owned property in Jamaica. In my notes I have --
"John 1st of Fassifern was the brother of the Gentle Lochiel. He
entered the mercantile business and resided for a time in the West Indies
(before 1745) where he became a successful merchant."
In the same book [Appendix No: 34] Donald Cameron of Clunes gives
evidence at the trial of John of Fassifern (15th Feb 1754). The Estate
in Jamaica is mentioned and in one of the charts illustrated in this
book, Ewen Cameron (brother of John) is shown as a Planter in Jamaica.
>From another source [Caribbeana by V.L. Oliver] I found a list of
Jamaican Wills and three Camerons for the 1700's were listed.
1738 - Ewen Cameron
1745 - Allan Cameron
1745 - James Cameron
I do not know if any of their descendants still live on the island today.
My husband's gt-gt-grandfather was Thomas Ross CAMERON, born in Kilmonivaig,
Inverness, Scotland about 1822 to Samuel and Mary (nee McDonald).
Thomas came to New Zealand via Australia in 1851 and the story in his
family has it that Thomas was a relation of John Cameron of Fassifern. We have
never been able to find proof of this and it is just pure coincidence that
my own family research is focused mainly on Barbados and the the West
Indies.
Is there anyone on this List connected with the Camerons of
Fassifern? If so, I wonder if you would be able to share your news
with us.
The only small clue I have (concerning my husband's Camerons) is that John
of Fassifern's daughter Lucy CAMERON married the Reverend Dr. Thomas ROSS
(1780). He was Minister of the parish of Kilmonivaig, Inverness for
many years and we believe our Thomas Ross CAMERON, also born
in Kilmonivaig, was named after the well known Rev. ROSS.
Barrie Lynn Callinan.
I'm looking for any information on the brothers John and Daniel Cameron who
were born between 1740-45, possibly in Scotland. They were in Cumberland Co.
North Carolina by 1780 and still lived there in 1810. There was another
brother, Allen. They may have been the sons of Daniel Cameron who was an
elder in the Barbecue Church. I'm particularly interested in the names of
their children. Please send any information at all to Mary Conley at ;
conlyn2(a)aol.com or to PJ Cowling at; User377364(a)aol.com Thank you, Mary
Conley

I am looking for any information re a Daniel B. Cameron, b. 25 September, 1785
in Harnett or Cumberland Co., N.C. . His parents were Allen Cameron and
Isabella (Campbell) Cameron. Allen Cameron was known as "Hill" Allen and he
was the son of Daniel Cameron. I can't seem to find out what happened to
Daniel B. Any help would be very much appreciated. Mary Conley
Hello all... this was on one of the lists I am on so thought that I would
pass it on...... Jeannie <><
Today, I read an interesting article about an unknown soundex rule that may
effect about 1% of population. It is: "that if two or more equivalent key
letters appear separated by an h or w, the two or more letters are
encoded as one letter, i.e., by a single number."
Example: Ashcroft correctly encoded is A261, NOT A226 produced "by Soundex
rules which omit the unknown rule."
Another example given was for the surname SCHKLAR...Correct Soundex code is
S460, not S246....last example: ACHZEHNER is A256 not A225.
According to the article, even the NARA Soundex machine does not use this
rule...Just thought I would pass this along for others like me who never
have
heard or read about this Soundex rule. MaisieAnn(a)aol.com

Me again. Finding lots of Jacobites, Clan Cameron, but not what I am really
looking for. However, there is an interesting site - a short history of
the Jacobite uprisings you might find interesting at
