Hey Folks,
I have an interesting e-mail I would like to pass along to you, this
is from a dear friend of mine, who lives near Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland.
She has been monitoring the Cameron Mail List, at my surprise also, but is not
a member, yet, but I will try to recruit her. Below is the comments she sent
me today.
The McGregors were outlawed first by the Campbells and then by the
government and in 1569 all their rights taken from them, including their
name, they became hunted people. One of the names they took was Malloch,
meaning, in Gaelic "heavy browed". Some of my forebears were Mallochs from
LochTayside.
One of your list members speaks of Broad Albion, Perthshire. I think that
will be Breadalbane, Perthshire, which encompasses the parishes of Kenmore,
Killin. Fortingall, parts of Dull and surrounding areas. The school in
Aberfeldy is Breadalbane Academy.
Congratulations on taking over the list and I hope it goes from strength to
strength.
My Camerons all come from Perthshire; Really too many to list here, but I
would be glad to answer any queries.
Some of you may remember me sending a list of marriages about a week
ago, she is the one who made the list. If there are any interested, I will
re-post it later.
Have a good evening,
Jackie McMinn

It was during the period when the Engish, because of Rob Roy McGregor ,
outlawed the MacGregor Clan from using their name or tartan. I believe Rob Roy
was born in 1671 or about, but the warrant for his arrest was about 1712.. He
took his Mother's name of Campbell. The MacGregors that weren't killed had to
take other names. Usually names of kin. Just somewhere in the last month or
so, I read or heard where many took the name of the Cameron Clan. I believe I
heard it on a documentory on TV. Not sure. Darn short term memory.
You recall the movie a few years ago called Rob Roy. It was very close to what
I have read about him, except he was a small, very homely man, but,a bit of a
outlaw
There is one tartan of the MacGregor Clan called Rob Roy. Just a plain black
and red
I'm always surprised there are any people around today with the surname
McGregor.

Belle died 16 July 1844, Alexander died 12 Oct 1856. They are buried next to

The Daniel Cameron, c1780 is the one we think is listed in the Maury/Giles
Counties of TN in 1820-30 - believe him to have come from Cumberland Co., NC -
unsure at this time. He is the possible son of John or Daniel born c1740-45
who are found in Cumberland Co., 1810.
Son of Daniel C1780 , John David Cameron, 1808 born TN and came to Saline Co.,
AR 1850 - assured of this as he appears in both TN and AR census. Arkansas
and Texas appear to be the settling places after TN in this family.

Hi, I have a Alexander CAMERON on the Madison Co. Fl. 1850 census rolls as
being 78 so he would have been born in 1772. He list his place of birth as NC.
I don't have any info on him except he is living close to James CAMERON, and
John B, CAMERON. in the 1850 census. Alexander list his wife's name as Nancy.
Any info out there on these CAMERONS?
I'm looking for any information regarding John Cameron who lived in Williamson
County, Tennessee in 1820. The 1820 census lists 3 males to 10 and 2 males
10-16; 1 female to 10 and 1 female 10-16. Any information would be greatly
appreciated. Mary Conley conlyn2(a)aol.com Thanks
I'm looking for any information regarding Allen B. Cameron b. c. 1808 in
?Maury Co., TN. He married Malinda C. Brown b. c. 1814. Their known children
were Mary Jane b. 1837; Margaret Z. b. 1840; Delila Ann b. 1845; Sarah E. b.
1846; and Harriet F. b. 1850. A Margaret Ann Brown lived with this family,
she may have been a sister of Malinda. The family seems to have moved to
Davidson Co. Tennessee. Please send any responses to Mary Conley

Hey Folks,
I'm not trying to set a precendent, but trying to get some
enthusiasm going. Question: To your knowledge, who is the oldest living
Cameron, and/or born Cameron?

Jackie - don't know if this is oldest or not - but have located the daughter
of Robert Watson Cameron, 1866, s/o John David Cameron,1808 and his second
wife; son of Daniel Cameron, c1780. The daughter was 93 on November 9.

Welcome, Jackie - thanks for taking over. Hope that Bruce will be able to
join us again as a member when his current problem has been settled. This has
been a very productive list under his leadership and sounds as though you
intend to keep it going in a good way.
Still searching for the elusive Cameron brothers, Daniel and John born
1740-45, found in Cumberland County, NC 1810. May be a third brother
Allen(Allan). One of these guys, prob Daniel or John had a son Daniel, c1780
- believe this Daniel to be father of my John David Cameron, born 1808 in
Rutherford Co., TN and my ggg grandfather.
We know there are other daughters of Daniel c1780 but cannot find them other
than Elizabeth C. Maybe we'll connect to your Susan - that would be nice.
All help appreciated.

Hello Jackie;
Congradulation's on becoming our new List Owner. You have my appreciation
as a subscriber to the list for keeping us going. It is so neat to have this
site to post our query's. I know that it takes a great deal of your
time keeping the
List going. Thank you so much for accepting.
Here is the small, small amount of information I have about my Cameron's. I
want so, to find info about my John's Cameron's ancestors.
John Hugh Cameron (my grandfather)
b. 9-28-1857 in ? Scotland m. Charlotte Elsie Colvin b. 1-6-1883,
Caernarvon, Wales in 1898 in Liverpool, Eng. Sailed from Liverpool,
Eng. and entered thru Ellis Island. Don't know what ship yet they came on,
but do know they most likely came to US in 1898. (on all the census copies
that I have from 1900 on John said that he was born in Eng. and the next
census he'd say Wales, but he was most likely born in Scotland.)
John could read and write and also his wife. I have minning claims and
deeds that they have both written on as well as old letters.
John's parents were;
John Michael Cameron b. Scotland or Wales m. Eva Pugh b. Wales.
father of John Michael ;
Michael Cameron b. Scotland, m. ?
I know that what information I have is almost the same as none, but !!!!!
Gotta keep trying.
Thanks.
Charlotte
