Hi my husband's mother was a Cameron
. Her family left Scotland in early 1800's. They were part of a group who were lead
by a Rev McCleod. They were in a group of ships that first went to Nova Scotia. As there
was a potatoe famine, they left aboard the Spray (one of 6 ships the group was on) and
headed to Australia .They were told by the ealier ships to go to New Zealand as it was
more to their liking. They arrived there in 1857 and settled in Waipu North Island of New
Zealand.
The father was Alexander Cameron his 1st wife was Margaret McIntyre, their children were
Alexander, John Peter, Margaret Ann, and Donald. His 2nd wife was Catherine MacDonald and
their children were Isabella, and Charles Duncan. .
My husband's mother's father was the son of John Peter Lewis Cameron who married
Lucy Curtis. They had Violet, Jessie (my husband's mother ) and Hector.
All of the family stayed in New Zealand except Donald he evidently went back to Nova
Scotia.
Don't know if there are any Camerons related to this family but would like to hear
if there are. Looking forward to hearing .!!
Gaynor in B.C. Canada.
