When I joined the list I had a welcome and invite to send my queries
and brick wall. Here it is: I can trace my Cameron line to a William
Cameron, born Oct 13, 1799 in 'Qubeck' and Cecilia Bentley, born April
4, 1802 in 'Qubeck', married Jan 2, 1822 in upper Canada, Home Dist.
After following family legends, ship records, etc, I have 'concluded'
that John Cameron (1779-1839) may be the link between William Cameron
(1799- ) and Alexander Cameron (1728-1831) who came to Pictou from
Scotland in 1773.
There seems to be a dearth of Camerons arriving in Canada between 1773
and 1801. Believe 1773 is about as early as anyone could come and still
be remembered in my family legends as to have made the journey to Canada
from Scotland.
John may have been married in 1795 ( maybe, could be too early), but
would have been 20 when William was born. He is the only one I have
found in Upper Canada in 1799. Other sons of Alexander were too young
or stayed in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
John has note of U. Settlement next to his baptism record. This could
relate to Upper Canada, where William was born.
One of Alexander's daughters was named Annabel. William had a daughter
named Eliza Ann. Could be coincidence only, but the Scottish were quite
aware of family names. Charles also named one of his daughters Ann.
If my assumptions are true the trail would be:
Alexander Cameron 1728-1831
John Cameron 1779-1839
William Cameron 1779-
Charles Cameron 1821-1904
Albert Lester Cameron 1866-1937
Russell Cameron 1893-1963
Bruce Thomas Cameron 1932-much later
Can anyone contribute any facts or stories that would support or shoot
down my assumption?
Bruce Cameron
