Hello List
I'm new to the Cambridge list.
My great grandfather x 8 was married in Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire in 1633. For the
past twenty years I've been endeavouring to discover his origins. He was described as
a yeoman and owned his own farm for the entire period he was in Burton Latimer and at the
time of his death, in 1654, he owned two farms. I've assumed that he must have
inherited the resources to have enjoyed such independence.
I recently had a look at
www.british-history.ac.uk and discovered that a Wood family
farmed at Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire, from 1479, when an Alexander Wood owned a 310 acre
estate. This estate passed down to Alexander's great grandson Edward Wood, who died
in 1599, the estate was then inherited by his son John, who sold the estate and moved to
Yorkshire. Most probably there would have been an extended family in the area, for
example, the IGI family search site has an Edward Wood, son of John Wood, baptised at St
Vigor, Forbourn, in 1590. I reckon that Fulbourn is about 35 miles from Burton Latimer
If anyone out there does have some knowledge of this Fulbourn (Wood) family, or can point
me in the right direction, I'd be pleased to hear from them.
Regards
