I am searching for any information on the family of my gg-grandmother Mary
Josephine CAMBER, born abt 1833 in AL per early census records. She
married, bef 1850 James BOLER, son of Wesley BOLER of Newton Co, MS. Her
death certificate indicates she was born in Greene Co, AL but the
approximate age on both the death certificate & tombstone do no agree with
the early (1850 & 1860) census records.
She was probably an orphan at the time of her marriage as what was probably
a younger brother of hers (William) was living with the newly married couple
in Newton Co, MS in 1850.
Some time between 1850 & 1854 the family moved from Newton County to Scott
Co, MS. James BOLER was killed in the Siege of Vicksburg in the Civil War.
The widow came back to Neshoba Co, MS where she bought land from her
father-in-law. She remarried for a short time period to Frank PIERCE. I am
not sure when or where they married or lived. She eventually settledin
Kemper Co, MS where she is buried at Enondale Cemetery. I suspect her
family may have lived there at one time prior to her marriage to James
BOLER.

Hello,
I signed up for this list because it stated that it was for variations
of the Camber name. Is there anyone at this time that is researching
the surname Kimber. I am researching Casper KIMBER B. abt 1703 and his
wife Pemmetjse WILLIAMSE and their descendants. They lived in the
Minisink, Orange County, New York area. My line is
Casper KIMBER - B. Abt 1703 Pemmetjse WILLIAMSE
George KIMBER B. 1729 D 1800 - Sarah WESTFALL B. Abt 1729
Peter KIMBER B. Abt 1759 - Elizabeth CLARK B. 1760
George KIMBER B 1781 - Sarah M. ELSTON B. 1783
Hannah KIMBER B. 1802 - Josiah BENNETT B. 1799
I have dates that are more complete and sibling information if anyone is
interested.
I have found no tie in to the CAMBER surname or found it used instead of
KIMBER
Thanks,

Hi Gang;
Micki;
I am quite sure that Henry Smith Camber was not born in Holland . If you
look at the 1861 census you will find that he states that he was born in
Lower Canada. With the borders always moving during those times it is
possible he was born in Vermont, in a part that was considered a part of
Lower Canada.
Unfortunately we have been unable to find a birth/baptism record for him yet.
Percy Camber b.4/6/1911 Newark, VT d. 7/10/1931 Barre, VT
the illegitimate son of Dorothy Camber & Jacob Triebausser?
Does anyone know who this Dorothy is?
Could this Dorothy be the daughter of Amasa Henry Camber and Elizabeth
Smith? She was b. 1893 and married Leon Paige in 1911
Hi Stacey, Angela, Holly & Gordon;
I can't believe the progress that we have made lately in regards to the
Camber Family.
Stacey, you mentioned a possible Dutch connection. I have one relative
that was supposedly born in Holland. I always assumed it was Holland, VT,
but maybe not. His name is Henry Smith Camber. Angela what do you think
of this.

Hello to all Camber Listies and all variations ,
Thank you for the welcome and let me tell you a little of our story . My
grandparents emigrated to Australia seperately with grandmother arriving
1912 and grandfather twelve months later with the rest of the family
(probably employment and financial reasons). They moved down to the
timber region in the south of the state where they ran a butcher shop
until he died in 1921 . With five children to look after Grandmother
went to the mining region of Kalgoolie where she ran dining rooms for
the miners .The family lives mostly around the Perth region. There are
other Kembers in Australia mainly in the eastern states and they are
related but their ancestor Henry arrived in 1857 and I believe others
arrived earlier perhaps around 1834 .
I was delighted to find this list as I thought there weren't too many
researching this name at all .
My line is in the south east corner of England .The earliest ancestor I
have is Robert Kember who was born in Rotherwick , Hampshire in 1600.
The trail leads then Hungerford ,Berkshire where William was born 1638,
then William again in 1665 and then on to John born 1689. A move to
East Grinstead , Sussex saw another John born 1721 and then again 1741
,John born in Cowden , Kent .
The next in line was Thomas born 1779 in Horsted Keynes and then back to
Cowden where Mary was born in 1809 still in Cowden Thomas again in 1834
( baseborn ) and finally Thomas Henry born 1880 in Croyden, Surrey who
was my grandfather . This is my direct line and I also have info on
their siblings . The Kembers have spread themselves throughout the south
of England from Kent,Surrey , Hampshire , Devon , Berkshire and London
as well as many places . World wide they are in U.S.A. , Argentina
,Africa , New Zealand, Australia and Canada .
I have , to date, only concentrated on the Kember spelling of the name
but would be interested in any other connections
I would love to hear from any person who recognizes any of these
locations or dates . Hope I haven't rambled on to much .
Kind regards,
John Kember ,
here in wet and rainy Perth

A warm welcome to Karen who is searching :
Caroline Camber, daughter of John A. Camber and Charlotte Bruce, who is
her my great great grandmother.
Karen, John's parents are John H. Camber and Heborah DATA

I found these entries submitted to Yates Publishing, so I am going to order
the full transcripts this weekend. If you check the submitter code, most of
them are from the same person, except for a few which I believe to be
related or are two records submitted by two different people. What do you
think? Any idea who JJK is? Must be someone in David Lee Camber's family
to have someone born so recently included.

Hi Gang
Holly has just made me realize that I may not have explained about the
Camber list that I created with rootsweb.
Writing to it means we all get the letters you send without having to paste
different names.
To write to it
CAMBER-L(a)rootsweb.com
And who knows maybe we can find others researching the Camber name!
Oh one more thing. I fyou have attachments or write in html rootsweb will not
accept it so send those attachments the way we have always been doing it.
Thanks
Angela

The Shefford Anglican Church Records 1866 folio 5v has Miriam's baptism as
an adult and it does state the 12 of Feb 1796. The I.G.I has a birth of 19 feb
1796. Perhaps this is a christening date???
Stacey said:
- Miriam CAMBER, daughter of John H. & Heborah = In the book
"Protestant Births and Marriages for Shefford county 1822 - 1879, page 38"
indicates Miriam's DOB as 12 February 1796. Has anyone else come across
this date?
Hi Cousins
There is a book called Early Virginia Immigrants 1623-1666 and on
page 58 there is mention of a Camber FR., 1638 by Edward Travis and
John Johnson, James City Co.
This may be helpful to us, can anyone get access to it?
Angela
Hi Gang!
This is a good "to do" list for us to work from. Has anyone found out where
there are other groups of Camber's there were before ourr and what states
they were in?
One of Holly's messages says there was a Camber in Virginia ca 174?? And
for the name DATA they seem to be concentrated around Vermont. At least
for a certain time frame.
I agree with Gordon that looking in the New England states is probably the
best place to start.
Marge has been keeping a close eye out for the marriage of John Camber
and Heborah DATA. So maybe she can come up with something.
I can continue to search the web to see is I can find it. I have also posted to
the Orange County VT page to see if anyone can find it for us. I am also
looking for the marriage of Elijah HALL and Miriam CAMBER m. ca. 1815 if
anyone finds it let me know!
ITEMS OUTSTANDING
1. Proof of marriage - nothing in Vermont Vital Records - marriage could
have taken place before Vermont started central record requirements. Also
they could have been married in another state, my guess is in New York
State.
2. Proof of death for both. I have been unable to find any death record
or during my cemetery tours a grave site. They may have returned to
Vermont prior to their death. Maybe a search of the Strafford, Orange Co.,
Vermont Cemetery may reveal something. As most of their children were
born there, they may have been returned there for burial.
3. Proof of Peggy Camber marriage and death. Her death may be registered
under her married name. We need a proof of marriage to be able to get her
married name and follow her descendants.
4. Peggy Camber - like the possibility of her parents being returned to
Strafford for burial, maybe Peggy was buried in the Strafford Cemetery.
5. You note that Polly Camber died in Strafford as did John A. Camber
also. There may be a family plot there.
6. Angela, it is family oral history that states Heborah Data is native
american. The name Data is of what origin ??????? A corruption of an
indian name maybe, I don't know.
