Hi, Kay!
This COULD lead us to our Miss Brantley!
Since MARY DEAN CALVIT's stepson, Daniel Higdon, married a Priscilla
BRANTLEY, the first question is:
WHERE did Daniel and Priscilla marry?
We know they were married by 1754, as their first child was b. in 1755
in Chatham Co., NC.
If they married in Chatham Co., NC, then this is where John BRANTLEY,
Priscilla's father, would have been living at the time (probably.) But if
they married in Johnston Co. and then moved to Chatham Co., John BRANTLEY
would be from Johnston Co.
SO, next question: Are these BRANTLEYS kin to our Miss BRANTLEY?
Did John Brantley have a son and grandchildren, one of which could have
been our Miss Brantley? Did Mary Dean Calvit Higdon's grandson JQHN
CALVIT, son of William and Miss Holmes Calvit, meet his wife, Miss
Brantley, through this Brantley family? It is possible! Chances are that
Mary Dean Calvit & Daniel Higdon married before Higdon's son Daniel
married, so Daniel may have been very fond of his stepmother, Mary; the
fact that Daniel's & Priscilla's daughter, Raynor & her husband, Thomas
Harrington, named their son Thomas CALVIT Harrington indicates that the
Higdon family was very close to the Calvits.
I will check in the NC State Library next time I'm there on John Brantley
and maybe find a will, naming other children which might be a clue as to
who our Miss Brantley's parents were.
An interesting note: Thomas Calvit Harrington had a brother who married a
Petty in Chatham County and another brother who married a granddaughter of
a Petty in Chatham County. A cousin of my husband Max is descended from
Chatham County Pettys!
Thanks, Kay!

There are CALVIT~HIGDON~BRANTLEY surnames. Says Raynor Lurany Higdon
Born-@1762 in Chatham Co. N. Carolina and died- between 1785-1795 in Ky.
Or Miss. Says father was a Daniel Higdon-Born-1734 in Prince George Co.
Va. and died-1769 in Georgia. Says Raynor Lurany Higdon's mother was a
Priscilla BRANTLEY. Says Raynor Lurany Higdon married a Thomas
Harrington and they had a son named Thomas CALVIT Harrington. (WHY?)
Also mentions a Celia BRANTLEY Born-1700 and she was a cousin to Raynor
Lurany Higdon.
It sure is surprising all these BRANTLEY-CALVIT-HIGDON names so early
on. Wonder if these BRANTLEY's are somehow related to our Miss BRANTLEY
that married John CALVIT ??
Has anyone more info on BRANTLEY name?
