Born- New Hope Plantation, Bayou Rapides, dau. of Samuel Levi Wells &
Mary Elizabeth Calvit. Married Dr. Robert Henry Sibley-11 Dec. 1821.
Dr. Robert Henry Sibley-Born-21 Aug. 1792 in Fayetteville, North
Carolina. Died-14 April 1853- aged-62 years. Son of Dr. John Sibley &
Mary White Wnslow of Natchitoches Louisiana.
Mary Wells Sibley inherited their property near Lamothe Bridge from her
father, Samuel Levi Wells, was caled "Mount Elon" the residence was on a
high hill about a quarter mile south of the Bayou, just in the edge of
the pine woods, where the hills begin to rise. The hill is now bare of
everything except the beautiful trees. Known today as "Sibley's Hill",
300 yards west of the old home site, another hill rises, where the
graveyard sits. Seven of the eleven children born to Mary & Robert
Sibley died in infancy or early childhood. More than likely these
children are also buried in Sibley Cemetery with their parents.
