Liz,
By the way the Brother Fairchild's name was William L. Fairchild. He
married Eliza Lucinda Calvit. Joseph Harrison Calvit Sr. married Savannah
Reed and the marriage bond was signed by a James B. Fairchild and Joseph.
The Fairchild's and the Calvits had I know of two different marriages. Eliza
and Joseph were brother and sister and the Brocks and the Fairchild's were
In-laws and Margaret Calvit Brock's son and daughter married Fairchild's.
Wait a minute, now I'm starting to go around in circles :) If you need
anymore confusion I'll try to straighten it out.
Benny

Subject: [CALVIT-L] Misc. info
A trip to the library this morning produce these bits of info--
Louisa Calvit married Andrew McKenzie on 31 Jan 1811 in Adams Co., MS.
Who is this??
>From MS Court Records 1799-1835, compiled by J. Estelle Stewart King--
page 9:
Higdon, Mary
August 3, 1805. Of the County of Jefferson, Miss Ter.
Sons: Thomas Calvit, Joseph Calvit, Jeptha Higdon
Exrs: sons Thomas and Joseph Calvit
Wit: Edward Andrew, James Luckett, Hamilton Seton
page 151:
"Jefferson County, 8 March, 1836, William Scott, admr. of Eliza Lucretia
Calvit, filed a bill in court against Sarah Calvit, James C. Wood and
Daniel
Hunt. He states that in 1821, Thomas Calvit, under whom
complainants'
intestate claims title to estate sued for, made his last will and
testament
in which he made certain bequests but left the greater portion of his
estate
undisposed. Wood and Hunt, who never qualifeid, were named as
executors.
That a certain Samuel Calvit and Eliza Lee Calvit were the only heirs at
law.
The said Samuel Calvit died in 1826, having had possession of the
estate
of
his father from time of his death. He made a will in which his wife,
Sarah
Calvit, one of the defendants, was made executrix. Said Sarah took
possession of the whole estate of said Samuel, including that of Thomas
Calvit. Eliza Calvit during this time was an infant, and was such at the
time of her death in 1833."

Bill of Divorce -- Jos. H. Calvit -vs- Martha Calvit
Is this Joseph Harrison Calvit?
page 72:
March 29, 1860--
"The subject of this notice was a son of W. S. Fairchild, of Pike
county, in this State. Bro. Fairchild became an orphan while quite young
and
grew up under the kind protection of the Rev. V. W. Brock, who was
his
brother-in-law. He married Eliza L. Calvit, daughter of John Calvit, of
Clairborne county, and the step-daughter of Moses Brock; and after having
two
children she and they both died. He was again married to Miss Penina
Mapp,
daughter of John F. Mapp."
(notice--article never gives first name of Brother Fairchild)
April 5, 1860
"Died on the 16th, near Utica, Hinds county, Miss, of pneumonia,
Mrs.
Margaret Brock, wife of Moses Brock. She was the daughter of Philip
and
Charlotte Lix, and a native of Mississippi. She was married to John
Calvit,
of Claiborne county, Nov. 13, 1823, by whom she had four children.
She
was
left a widow January 21, 1835. On the 15th of February, 1838, she
united
in
marriage to brother Moses Brock, by him she had seven
children."
(I would think that the name Lix is a typo/misspelling, should be Six.
Also,
I had an 1832 marriage date for John and Margaret. That could be my
typo
as
1823 sounds better with her having 4 children!)
Hope some of this helps someone...
