Dear Kate,
While I only have 1 PRATHER in my information, I have a preponderance of
repeatingly connecting family lines from Europe forward through to today so
there may be connections that I just don't have in my main file. As well I
have family group in Franklin County, Mississippi and Adams County,
Mississippi that married into the CALVIT family and later into the SPRADLEY
family that I descend from as well that has the one name of PRATHER showing
up in my main file so I will go through that information as quickly as
possible immediately below and see if you might have anything that jumps out
at you perhaps leading to other connections. I remember your email address
of < lucygilber(a)msn.com > and while it is probably from CALVIT
communciation previously but might have been another line.
Okay, the PRATHER info in my main file is:
Clarence PRATHER, (no further info on him but his wife was born: Abt. 1900
so maybe he was as well,) who married Lenora SPRADLEY, born: Abt. 1900 in ?,
died: 1973, who was the daughter of Martha Jane "Canzette" WOODCOCK, born:
1876, died: 1971, and husband, Asbury SPRADLEY, born: 1874, died: 1972,
son of Catherine Elizabeth IKERD, born: 1847, and Elias Newton SPRADLEY,
born: 1845, who was the son of Sarah Eliza "Eliza" McCRAVEN, born: 1828
prob. in Newton Co., MS, (whose 2nd husband was Wiley LANDRUM,) and Sarah
Eliza's husband, William Elias SPRADLEY, Jr, born: Abt. 1820 prob. in Newton
County, Mississippi, who was the brother of my maternal 3rd great
grandmother, Nancy SPRADLEY, born: 1816 in Newton County, Mississippi or SC,
who married Hiram McCARTY, and Nancy SPRADLEY and William Elias SPRADLEY, Jr.
were the children of Mary McCAIN, born: 1790 in SC, (said to be 1/2
Cherokee,) and Mary's husband, William Elias SPRADLEY, Sr., born: Bet.
1780-1790 in SC, (believed to be descended from Bryant SPRADLEY, Sr.
lineage.)
Now, the aforementioned Hiram McCARTY, born: July 23, 1811 in Edgefield
District/County, South Carolina, died: 1886 in Jasper County, Mississippi,
were the parents of my maternal 2nd great grandmother, Martha Ann Caroline
Matilda? "Caroline" McCARTY, born: December 05, 1833 in Jasper County,
Mississippi, died: May 15, 1932 in Tannehill, Winn Parish, Louisiana, who
married William Tunley JONES, (CSA,) born: November 09, 1851 in Rankin
County, Mississippi, died: February 14, 1905 in Tannehill, Winn Parish,
Louisiana, (son of Malinda EVANS, (d/o Panther EVANS,) and Malinda's husband
who was Alson Bluford "Gip" JONES, (said to be son of immigrant, Benjamin
EVANS.)
The aforementioned William Tunley JONES, (CSA,) and wife, Martha Jane
Caroline Matilda? "Caroline" McCARTY, were the parents of my maternal great
grandmother, Rodella "Della" JONES, born: October 08, 1867 in Winn Parish,
Louisiana, died: August 11, 1950 near Forest, West Carroll Parish,
Louisiana, who married my maternal great grandfather, Cicero Lamkin HATTEN,
born: February 28, 1862 in Winn Parish, Louisiana, died: December 01, 1939
near Forest, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana, (Cicero also had a sister named
Almedia Elizabeth,) and Almedia and Cicero's stepfather was Zachary Taylor
FAITH who married as the 2nd husband of Cicero's mother, Frances Elizabeth
Ann GRISHAM, after the death of her 1st husband and Cicero's father who was
Lawrence M. HATTEN, (CS/POW,) born: Abt. 1833 in MS, died: 1865 at Camp
Chase POW camp in Franklin County, Ohio, (son of Frances Lucretia "Patsy"
LOTT and William HATTEN.)
Frances Elizabeth Ann GRISHAM, born: Abt. 1840 in Franklin County,
Mississippi, died: ? in ?, md: September 18, 1855 in Winn Parish,
Louisiana, was the daughter of Jehu/John? Madison GRISHAM, (name aka
GRESHAM/GRISSOM, and de GRESHAM,) born: Abt. 1815 prob. in Georgia or
Jackson/Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, died: 1861 in Franklin County,
Mississippi, (said to be son of an immigrant named Jehu/John? GRISHAM who was
born in Abt. 1770 according to some in Ireland and immigrating soon after but
possibility exists that he may actually have been born in South Carolina or
elsewhere and may actually be descended from immigrant, Edward GRISHAM, born:
1618 in Limpsfield, Surry County, England, immigrating to Virginia, but
speculative still.
Frances Elizabeth Ann GRISHAM's father was this Jehu/John? Madison GRISHAM
and Frances's mother and wife of Jehu/John? was Elizabeth Ann FORD, born:
1821 possibly in Franklin County, Mississippi, died: 1851 in Jackson Parish,
Louisiana, md: October 28, 1838 in Franklin County, Mississippi, who was the
daughter of Mary BUCKLES, (aka BUCKHOLTS,) born: Abt. 1795 in Natchez, Adams
County, Mississippi, and Henry FORD, born: Abt. 1790 in Natchez, Adams
County, Mississippi, died: 1851 in Mississippi.
Mary BUCKLES, (aka BUCKHOLTS,) was the daughter of Mahala MIDDLETON, born:
poss. 1775, (but date is in question,) in poss. in Natchez, Adams Co., MS or
SC, died: 1825 in Natchez, Adams Co., MS, (whom is believed to have been the
daughter of Mary Martha? MOTTE and Willis MIDDLETON, born: Abt. 1760 in
South Carolina, died: 1808 in Franklin County, MS, whom I believe was the
son of William MIDDLETON, born: Abt. 1720 either SC or Surry Co., VA and he
was the son of Ann NASH, born: Bet. 1680-1690, md: 1705, and husband,
Martin MIDDLETON, immigrant in 1686, who was born: Bet. 1660-1679 in England
and may have died in South Carolina,) and Mahala MIDDLETON's husband and the
father of Mary BUCKLES, (1st wife,) was Abram BUCKLES/aka Abraham BUCKHOLTS,
Jr., born: 1778 in South Carolina, died: 1853 in Natchez, Adams County,
Mississippi, md: Bef. 1795, and Abram/Abraham, Jr. later married 2nd wife,
Nancy KILLIAN, (widow of Mrs. Abram GALTNEY,) who was the daughter of Edward
KILLIAN.
Now, Abram BUCKLES/aka Abraham BUCKHOLTS, Jr. was the son of Elizabeth
WOODWARD and her husband, (Major) Abraham BUCKHOLTS, Sr., born: Abt. 1729 in
Eastern Prussia/Germany.
Back to the aforementioned Mary BUCKLES who married Henry FORD, born: Abt.
1790 in Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi, died: 1851 in Mississippi, who
was the son of John FORD, born: 1766 in Virginia, died: September 11, 1844
in Franklin County, Mississippi, md: 1784 in Natchez, Adams County,
Mississippi, and Elizabeth CALVIT, born: Abt. 1760 in prob. in Washington,
Mississippi, whom we believe to be one of the many, (is it 14?,) children of
Antoine/Anthony CALVIT, born: 1694 in France, died: Bef. November 03, 1760
in Craven County, North Carolina, and wife, Mary DEAN, born: 1722 in
Pennsylvania, died: February 1807 near Washington, Adams County,
Mississippi, (whose 2nd husband was Daniel HIGDON and, while I don't have it
right here in front of me, one of their descendants, I believe, married into
a HERRINGTON/HARRINGTON family branch that somehow connects with my paternal
HERRINGTON/HARRINGTON lineage from which I descend twice both times with my
paternal 4th great grandfather, William HERRINGTON, Sr., born: Bef. 1755 in
the aforementioned Craven County, North Carolina. I descend from 2 of his
sons, Enoch HERRINGTON, who married Harriet STUCKEY, and William HERRINGTON,
Jr. who married Cynthia "Sina" GRANTHAM.
I am interested in anything that you see that might provide us with other
connections that might open up some missing areas of information.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett
