The immigrant for our family, Gideon Macon, was a French Huguenot and was in
Virginia as early as 1655.
Hello,
I thought the name of Gideon MACON sounded familiar to me and looked in my
files and found that his descendants married into the HARDY, CHEEK, ALSTON, and
JONES families that married into my paternal MYRICK family, (descended from
MEURIG/MEURIC/MEYRICK/ and MERRICK ancestry out of Wales into England and into
Virginia in the early 1600s,) as well as other branches into New England then.
In addition, in my maternal JONES lineage said to have been from Wales in
1802 , (but still looking for info on that,) with immigrant, Benjamin JONES,
there is the name of Alson JONES but don't know if there is any possible
connection here or not and, in addition, this JONES family married into my CALVIT
lineage that is CALVIT/CALVET/CALVER(T?) that is also of French Hugenot anccestry
immigrating into Virginia to Manakintown before 1714. Jean CALVET's name
appears on a plaque at the Ellis Island Museum in New York City, New York. And he
is mentioned in the Henrico Co. Virginia Patent Book Number 10. Patent Number
125 reads : "John Calvit, April 30, 1714, 100 acres on the south side of the
James River, beginning at a corner ash standing in the river at the south of a
small branch, being the upper corner on the river of the French Lands, etc."
Jean CALVER {John Calvit} was born in Lacaune, France. He settled in Henrico
County, Virginia. Some people say he had a wife and 3 sons and 2 daughters but
I show that he had at least 5 sons, Antoine/Anthony, Pierre/Peter, William,
Stephen, and Jean/John CALVER/CALVIT, and 2 or 3 daughters with one named Ann
CALVER/CALVIT.
Just fishing for other possible connections so if you see anything that might
make further connections for any of this please let me know.
Thanks.
Vaya Con Dios,
