Thanks Randy & Carol for the info on Theodore E. CALVIT. Did he die 30
Nov.1906 at the age of 71 years? Do you know who Nannie O. CALVIT is
that died October 6, 1887?
You said the children you have so far for Wiliam CALVIT & Elizabeth
Spiars CALVIT are:
1.) William CALVIT Jr.-Mar. Minerva Jane Mundy
2.) John CALVIT-married Nancy
(Nancy who?)
3.) Grace CALVIT-Mar. John Mock
( a maybe on this one)
4.) Charles Brantley CALVIT-mar.Elizabeth Wilson Sanders & Sarah E.
Carter
5.) Theophilus CALVIT-any info here?
(is this Andre Theophilus?)
6.) Theodore E. CALVIT-married Susannah Gobeau & Elizabeth Lum
Kate: Now WHO does the Palcey? CALVIT that married William Spiars 14
April 1821 in Franklin Co. Miss. belong to? I know William Spiars is
Robert Spiars brother and both these boys are sons of John Spiars &
Hester Ford Spiars.
Is this PALCEY a name or mis-spelled?

Hello CALVIT researchers !
First off...WELCOME to the list to Karen Hinson. Hi Karen, glad you
could join us!
Second..Thanks to Liz for posting the new info that the SSDI (Social
Security Death Index) has added to their site. If you haven't checked it
out, please do so. I think it is the greatest idea to have the "post
'em's " added there. Now people researching the same person can contact
you. JUST A GREAT IDEA...wish I would have thought of it !
To Laura: The date of the deed in West Carroll Par. La. with James "A"
or "H" CALVIT was 23 Dec. 1873. He was a witness with George W.
Thompson. Some of you may not know, but those THOMPSON people married
into the CALVIT people..right Kate??
Benny: Yes Benny, the Gracy CALVIT Born 1805 in Adams County and married
Robert Spiars is the daughter of John CALVIT & Miss Brantley. Her
brother Thomas CALVIT was my GGG-Grandfather. John CALVIT & Miss
Brantley CALVIT only had 5 children that I know of: William, Thomas,
John, Gracy & Charles Brantley CALVIT.
For a long time I was cOnFuSeD as there are TWO...yes TWO Charles
Brantley CALVIT's !!!! AS IF (DUH) we don't have enough problems !! It
took Liz to set me straight. NUMBER ONE (1) Charles Brantley CALVIT was
born 1808, son of John CALVIT & Miss Brantley (rightly so) and NUMBER
TWO (2) Charles Brantley CALVIT was born 1827 to William CALVIT &
Elizabeth Spiars CALVIT.
I am almost positive that William CALVIT & Elizabeth Spiars CALVIT had a
son named JOHN CALVIT...because both of their fathers names was JOHN.
So...where is this JOHN?? He will show up somewhere!
Now Kate on the list, is hunting the SPIARS names as well, we must
search allied family names as that will lead to our CALVIT names. For
instance..has anyone thought of the FORD name? Elizabeth Spiars
CALVIT's mother was Hester FORD. Maybe some FORD researcher has got the
names of those 14 children born to Elizabeth Spiars CALVIT. Food for
thought anyway. I, myself will look for FORD. So far then we have
possible 5 children for Elizabeth Spiars & William CALVIT : Charles
Brantley (2), William,Gracy, Theodore G., and maybe John Calvit.

Benny--
A correction for your list of Calvit marriages from Adams Co. MS
Hunting for Bears: the last one on the list should be Theodore E.
Calvit--Elizabeth D. Lum (not Gunn) m. 22 Jan. 1868. Theodore was the
youngest of the 14 children of William Calvit and Elizabeth Spires of
Liberty Hall, Franklin Co., MS. His first wife was Susannah Gobeau, m.
17 July 1855 in Woodville, Wilkinson Co., MS. They had two children,
Andre Theophilus (Randy's grandfather), b. 29 April 1857, d. 28 May
1921; and William T., b. about 1858, d. 22 Oct. 1863 (age 6). Susannah
died sometime before April 1868, when Theodore petitioned to become the
guardian of Andre Theophilus. Theodore and his second wife, Elizabeth
Lum, had three children: (1) Elliott, d. 15 June 1869 (age 1 year); (2)
Charles, d. 15 June 1874 (age 5 mon); and (3) Elizabeth Laura, b. about
1875; death date unknown. Elizabeth Lum Calvit died 12 May 1875 (age
36). She, Charles, Elliott, and Willie are buried in the Natchez City
Cemetery, as is Theodore. (Sources; county marriage records and Natchez
City Sexton's records)
Kay--
The Gracy Calvit who married John Mock 22 April 1834 may have been one
of the 14 children of William Calvit and Elizabeth Spires. No proof of
that yet, but the date would fit in with the other known children. We
hope eventually to research this through the Mock family in the Natchez
area.

Rootsweb has added a new feature to their SSDI list. You may now add
"post-ems" to a name. This is a great way to let other researchers find
you, correct wrong info, post a maiden name, etc. After you find your
relative's name in the SSDI files, just click on Add Post-Em and fill out the
form! Easy!
Happy hunting...

The J.H. Calvit in Copiah Co. MS., I believe is my GGGrandfather, but I
never knew of him being in Copiah Co., but the part of Hinds Co. that he
came from was very near the county line so I suppose that it's is the same
one. His full name was Joseph Harrison Calvit Sr. What info do you have on
him?

The notes I have show a Gracy (b. 1805) that married Robert Spiars 2 Dec.
1821 in Adams Co., MS., but it shows her to be from John, and I have others
that show her to be from William and John being her grandfather, OH well.
The others that I have are Theodore G., Thomas, John, Gracy, Charles
Brantley.

Phoebe Crawford Jett Calvit was in the Natchez District of Mississippi by
the 1780s and was first married to Stephen Jett. Does anyone know anything
about the ancestors of Phoebe Crawford Jett Calvit? I am also trying to
find information on the descendants of Phoebe Crawford Jett Calvit and her
husband William Calvit. I understand they had a son named Tactitus
Galliard Calvit. Can anyone provide more information on this line? Thanks
for your help.

My Thomas CAVIT-Born-1793 Adams Co. Miss. Married Priscilla Mitchell-29
May 1826. They left Adams Co. Miss. and went to Yazoo Co. Miss. then
over to Carroll Parish, La. (now West Carroll). I have some deeds that
mention my Thomas, his son, Samuel Francis Calvit and a John Calvit,
James Calvit and Charles Calvit. I believe that John & Charles Calvit
are Thomas Calvit's brothers. His brother John Calvit married Nancy Ann
Galtney, and his brother Charles Calvit married Elizabeth Thompson. I
just can't figure out WHO the James CALVIT is ! He was a witness on a
deed and has a middle initial either "A" or "H". Any ideas?
Also these CALVIT's in Yazoo County Mississippi:
Alexander-1843, 1846
Charles-1835 & 1843 & 1844, 1846
Joseph-1843
Stephen-1843, 1846
Thomas-1835 1838 & 1843
Emeline-1854
The Thomas & Charles are brothers but who are the others? Did your
CALVIT go to Yazoo County Miss.??

Patsey (Martha) Calvit who married JOshua Clarke was definitely the daughter
of Joseph Calvit - it is unlikely that with his second wife he would have a
daughter by the same name of a daughter he already had I would think.....I'm
sure stranger things have happened!!

I can't identify all of the Calvit's that you listed, but the ones I do know are;
Margaret Calvit-married Moses Brock 13 Feb. 1838 Hinds Co. Ms. Margaret was Margaret Six, she married John Calvit son of Joseph, then Brock.
Joseph H. Calvit-married L. Price 12 Apr. 1859 Hinds Co. MS. this is the son of John and Margaret Calvit. Marie, who is a lady that works at the Hinds Co. Courthouse is sending me the marriage certificate on this one and she has a L. Reed marrying Joseph on that date, but when I get it may be L. Price.
Stephen Calvit-married Elizabeth Atkins 19 Dec. 1819. If I'm not wrong Stephen was the son of Phoebe and Stephen Jett. He was raised by Phoebe and William Calvit, and he went by the name Calvit, but I don't think William ever adopted him.
Alexander Hamilton Calvit-married Mrs. Barbara M. Wood 18 Dec. 1814. Alexander was the son of Frederick Calvit and Mary Montfort. Barbara was Barbara Wilkinson, then Wood, then Calvit. They were part of Stephen F. Austin's "Old Three Hundred" that settled in Texas.
Charles Brantley Calvit-married Elizabeth Sanders 25 Aug. 1854. I have Charles as the son of William and Elizabeth Spires and Elizabeth Sanders the first wife of Charles. Elizabeth was a Wilson then married a Saunders or Sanders before Brantley. She died after the death of a son and the burning of her home by the Yankees in 1863.
William Calvit-married Elizabeth Spires 14 Aug. 1809. I have William as the son of John Calvit and Miss Brantley Calvit.
These are all I have any info on. Most of my info came from "The Colvett Family Chronicles" by Latayne Colvett Stanfill, and some research of my own about Margaret and Joseph H. Calvit, these are in my direct line.
Benny
Kate Mullins:
I have a Gracy Calvit marrying Robert Spiars/Spires in 1821, and ID
her as a daughter of John Calvit (ca. 1761-ca. 1830) and "Miss Brantley"
(Jean Calver-Antoine-William-John). My only source for this is material
that originated with a Vera Brantley Godbold (now deceased), who was a
great-great-granddaughter of Gracy's brother William (the one who
married Elizabeth Spires). According to her material the children in
that generation were William, Thomas, John, Gracy, and Charles. I have
no idea where she got this information.
