SALEM - Arlene Belle (Calvin) Hiltbrand, 93, passed away at 10:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18,
2010, at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem, Ohio.
A lifetime area resident, but more recently resided at the Courtyard on Lexington Avenue.
She was born in Greenford (Mahoning County) Ohio on Nov. 26, 1916 to Ray and Maude
(Lehman) Calvin.
In early years, she had been a bookkeeper at the former Famous Dairy. She then went into
the U.S. Naval Service-Coast Guard during World War II. She was a Storekeeper First
Class.
On April 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, Walter F. Hiltbrand. He preceded her
in death after 54 years on Oct. 30, 2002.
She was a homemaker and a active member of the Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church, a
member of the Patience Circle, a member of the Salem Golf Club, and a charter member of
the former Salem YWCA.
She is survived by her loving children, Robert (Mindy) Hiltbrand of Salem, Ohio and Maxine
Hildbrand of Tampa, Fla.; her grandchildren, Brett R. and Morgan E. Hiltbrand, both of
Salem; and her sisters, Bertha Gottschling of Columbus, Ohio; Virginia (Edgar) Holloway of
Columbiana, Ohio and Ruth Schloh of San Jose, Calif.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine
and Dorothea Calvin.
A celebration of life service will be observed on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Salem Holy
Trinity English Lutheran Church with Pastor Connie Sassanella officiating. The burial will
follow at Grandview Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the parlor at the
church.
The family has requested that memorial contributions to be made to the Holy Trinity
English Lutheran Church-Memorial Fund, 1089 E. State St., Salem, OH 44460.
Arrangements and services are in the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home in
Salem.
