Dear Calvert Study Group,
Vicki asks, "If there are Cheatham's married into
our Calvert line?" Well, John Wesley Cheatham
married my great-great-aunt Emily Calvert. She is
listed as #920 in Ella Foy O'Gorman's book.
Emily was the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth
Calvert of Nelson County, KY. She would have been
the niece of Thomas Calvert from Prince William
County, Va. (Emily, Richard, Thomas, Rueben,
George, George, William, Leonard, George)
Thomas and his wife Emily Gray Calvert are the
ggg-grandparents of both Vicki Kay and myself.
Vicki is my closest cousin in our study group.
Forget the Cheatham family reunion, because we
are having our own. More than 175 years ago Vicki
Kay's ggg-grandparents Bennett Gray and Henrietta
Clark Calvert moved west to settle in Muhlenburg
County, Ky. My gg-grandparents Richard and
Elizabeth Dadisman Calvert stayed behind in
Nelson County.
In June, Vicki Kay and along with another cousin
(Steve ) will be returning to the original Calvert
homestead in Nelson County. I am really excited
and can't wait to meet Vicki Kay.
We still have plenty of Calverts in Nelson County
and I know we will be able to visit a few of
them. In fact one these Nelson County Calverts
helped Ella Foy write her book. They still talk
about "Specie Dick" (as Richard was known), just
like he died yesterday.
