PEPPER, the executors named.
*6* The will of Jane Sewell, widow of Philip Calvert, is not unimportnat,
in that it may hold some clue to the identity of her mother-in-law Joane or
Johanna, the first Lady Baltimore. Philip Calvert m., as his second w.,
Jane, youngest dau. of Dr. Henry Sewell and Jane Lowe, his wife. Hid nephew
Charles, Lord Baltimore, wa his wife's stepfather therefore. The burial of
Mrs. Jane Calvert, 17 May, 1692, is recorded in the Registers of St. Giles
in the Fields, London. Adm. was granted to her in Maryland upon the estate
of her husband, 26 Feb.,1682/3. Jane Sewell Calvert does not appear to have
remarried (Rec. in Land Office, Annapolis; Bump, Mss. Notes; Md. Hist.
Mag., Vol. IV, p. 292).

The Estate of ELIZABETH CALVERT *7* of St. Giles in the Fields,
Middlesex.
*7* It is strange that so little is known of Cecilius Calvert's dau.
Elizabeth, who was buried 16 Jan., 1711/12, by the Registers of St. Giles
in the Fields, London. She d. interstate and unm., in what must have been
her old age. According to the Pedigree Chart given to Hearne in 1718 by his
friend the Governor, she was one of the surviving daus. of Ann Arundell,
and so the omission of her name in the later list of children was
accidental. The Chart is far from perfect and nust not be taken literallly.
It appears, however, to have been the earliest attempt at a genealogy of
the Maryland Calverts, and as such is extremely important.
Commission issued 25 [Jan., 1711/2] to the most noble and honourable
CHARLES , Lord BALITMORE, late of the parish of St. Giles in the Fields,
co. Middlesex, spinster, deceased, to have, etc., to administer the goods,
right and credits of the said deceased.
Sworn, etc. Further grant in May, 1716. (P.C.C. Admon. Acct. Book, f. 5 ).
