Hi All,
Having just subscribed will list my CALVERT ancestors on my mother's
line. Firby DUNN m.Elizabeth CALVERT 17 Jul 1809 at Pateley Bridge,WRY.The
witness was Alexander DUNN Snr.,Firby's father. The 1845 Bradford Directory shows
Firby DUNN,cabinet maker & furniture broker,Well Street.Firby was my 4gUncle.
Joseph CALVERT m.Ann BRADBERRY 28 Dec 1829 at Ripon, WRY. Ann was my 3gAunt.
The 1851 census of Bewerley lists 31 CALVERTs & 26 DUNNs.They were lead miners,
kibblers, farmers, flax mill workers etc. It appears that these families formed
partnerships to purchase the 'meers' to mine the lead as they are shown at the
weddings of the families. There are 2 DUNN shafts shown on the mining maps of
the
district. When the mining became unprofitable some moved to the mills in the
Bradford area, some to the ironstone mines in Eston,NRY.
