Hi, Angela,
I'm supposed to be descended from Leonard also, through his son John. If it
will help, I have the following information about Leonard:
He was a tenant of Philip, Lord Wharton, and a man of local standing. In 1602
he was treasurer of the Lame Soldier's Fund, Richmondshire Division of the
North Riding. He and his wife Grace were Catholics and continually compelled
to comply with the required Anglican worship by posting bonds or actually
attending church. He may have been imprisoned in 1580 for this reason. He gave
a bond on 9 Oct 1592 that he would employ no Catholic servants or teachers and
dispense with all Popish books or relics.
Children of Leonard and Alicia/Grace:
1. George Calvert b. c. 1578, Kiplin, near Bolton Castle, Yorkshire; d. 15 Apr
1632 London.
2. John Calvert b. c. 1587, Great Moorsham, Skelton, Yorkshire; d. after 1617,
buried Drumgorr, Ireland (I have no documentation that he is a son of Leonard
- may be a nephew) This is my ancestor. m. Grace ?
3. Robert Calvert
4. Christopher Calvert b. about 1580
5. Dorothy Calvert m. Christopher Smithson
6. Mary Calvert b. about 1585 m. Isaac Chapline about 1605
If you find out anything more let me know.
