Ginger,
Your inquiry about Jennie Linn Calvert was
forwarded to me. Jennie Lynn descends from a
William Calvert who was born before 1785/87 in
either England or Ann Arundel Co., Md. The oral
tradition is that he was born in England, coming
to America with his father who settled in
Baltimore.
William Calvert married on July 14, 1808 in
Bedford Co., Va. to Elizabeth Helm. He died
before June 6, 1857 (date of inventory of his
estate) in Bedford Co., Va.
William and Elizabeth ((Helm) Calvert had seven
(7) children. Your line of descent is thru their
third child, Charles Hoyt Calvert. Charles Hoyt
was born on March 31, 1815 in Liberty, Bedford
Co., Va. He married on Oct. 13, 1842 to Catherine
Emeline Hammock, b. Feb. 26, 1825, Bedford Co.,
Va.; died Feb. 3, 1880, Bedford Co., Va. Charles
Hoyt Calvert was a tailor.
Charles and Catherine (Hammock) Calvert had a
eleven children. Jenny Lynn Calvert was their
third child born Nov. 1, 1848, died Mar. 11,
1876; married Henry Franklin. Their daughter,
Bertha, married Edgar Davis and had 6 children.
The source of information cited for this family
is from Adeline M. Calvert Wilson of Vinton, Va.
with the remark "Bible Records". Adeline was a
younger sister of Jenny Lynn. Adeline was born
Nov. 1, 1864 and died March 31, 1936. The "oral
tradition" that " William Calvert was born in
England, coming to America with his father who
settled in Baltimore" can probably be attributed
to Adeline since she was the oldest family
member contributing to the family history.
The above is from "Descendants of Virginia
Calverts" by Ella Foy O'Gorman, 1947, pages
631-633.
