Had an interesting Monday. Went to the Connecticut State Library to find
data on William Calvert, my great (times 4) grandfather. Found the
following entry in the New London Town Records:
Deborah Dayton was born Jan 4, 1746
William Colvert & Deborah were married July 22, 1762
Temporance their Daughter born July 15th 1762
Jane their Daughter born Apr 7th 1764
William their son born April 5th 1767
Phebe their daughter born August18th 1775
Matthew their son born Feb 18th 1779
John their son born November 24th 1780
Thomas, their son born Jan 4th 1785
I could not find them in the 1790 census, but I found Deborah Calvert (note
the change in spelling) and their son William in the 1800 census for the
town of New London. Even with assistance I could not find more on William
Calvert the father, but I ran out of time to really extend the research.
The next day I went to the Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London to locate the
grave site of my great grandfather Walter Scott Calvert. Found his grave,
but I also researched other Calvert burial records. I found the burial
record of Thomas Calvert who died March 5, 1864 at 79 years old, making the
birthdate 1785. I also recorded some data on other Calverts and would be
glad to provide that to anyone interested.
I will be going to New London later this year to do more research, but
would welcome any information on William Calvert/Colvert's life, origin,
parents or childrens connections to other Calverts.
