Daphne, Have we compared lines? Not only do we have Calverts in Belmont
Co., OH but I also have as direct lines: Stillwells & Bailey. We must have
a connection somewhere? I too had John b. 1747 as their father but don't
think this is correct.
My ancestor was John Calvert b. 1766 & died 1847 Belmont. he's buried in
Smith Twp next to his wife Esther Jones 1768-1849. Great name, Jones.
Anyway I know this family came from Centre Co., PA w/ the Mercer family.
Found that in a very old version of the History of Belmont Co., OH. They
were Methodists & came to start up a new church. My ancestor Hannah Mercer
Calvert was born in Centre Co., PA 1796, she married Andrew Scoles 1819 in
Belmont. His name is recorded as SEALS. Do you know who the Mary Calvert
who married Richland (Richard?) Shively in Belmont 1826? Shively's are
another of my lines & they too were from PA.
Hannah's sister Esther married the same year to James McMannus.
I have this for the 1830 census:
Belmont Co., OH
Calvert, Jacob 1830 JACOBSBURG 370
Calvert, Jacob J. 1830 SMITH TWP 369
Calvert, John 1830 SMITH TWP 369 My John
&
Calvert, John 1830 SMITH TWP 371 his son
Calvert, Nathan 1830 JACOBSBURG 370
