Dan,
A small correction. I did not "conclude" that Benedict had three sons among
the eight children he professed to have. in wasn't it 1764? The published
copy of the original letter which I have seen, has him stating to the
secretary or whatever the official title was of this assistant to Frederick
L.B.7, that he HAD three sons. I do not know that one of these was a John.
What happened to your/my quest to establish whether or not two of these
three sons were the later supposedly "died young" ROBERT and
"disinherited' WILLIAM.
The wedding guests of your WILLIAM will have to be researched and proven
otherwise beforre I will get off the argument that the ROBERT and wife
buried in the cemetary about 25 miles from where I grew up are not the
ROBERT and wife and WILLIQAM'S wedding.
Gorman and Nicklin and some others did not have imformation developed since
through this E-mail advantage, nor more recent revelationsd like that
letter. Research, not reiteration, of flawed history, is the need. If I
weren't nearly 72 and way the h--- out here in Montana , I would be in the
archiver and Library of Congress and kick some geneological ----.
Last I heard much from you, you were heading in there, to check some
things???

Galen
Dear Galen, Robert and others,
Thanks for the correction, but why would Benedict refer to his eight children
(including three sons?) if they were not alive at the time since he was
arguing for more land or money on this basis? The quest for my William and
your Robert is still on. I did not make it to Maryland as planned summer
before last because of the death of my mother in June (I was the executor of
her estate). I did make it to east TN and reported back on those results. In
summary my William was in Washington Co. in 1780 or 1781 and left for MO in
1819. I will try again this summer to go to MD. Your Robert is even more
elusive than my William. At least William appeared in the will and was
formally disinherited a few months later. There is no mention of Robert in
the will though I have seen him listed (as died young) by others as one of 13
children.
Do you know the origin of the data which lists Benedict's children saying that
5 died young?? The source is not the will or at least not the part posted by
Robert. The same source states that William, John and Ariana were unmarried
in 1788 at Benedict's death. Although this statement is technically correct, I
have an obit from the Maryland Gazette proving that she died in 1784 at the
age of 21.
Robert - in a recent post regarding the will you talked about Charles and how
he fit in birth order. Charles is not mentioned among the 7 children referred
to in the part of the will you posted??
Galen - Do you think there is a record of guests at William's wedding?
