Robert, Janis and others,
I have been following the discussion about the possibility that William
is the son of Benedict Swingate Calvert. I looked at my data, and I
have William's date of birth as 26 Feb 1757. A note in my file says
"Information from Bible records in possession of the Elizabeth Calvert
Broyles family. Data obtained in 1991 from Wm. Draffen (Tipton, MO.)"
Perhaps someone can find the Bible in the Broyles family.
Another point. To me, it appears that about 1780, William Nodding, his
two sons and three sons-in-law, William Calvert (and Elizabeth), Daniel
McCray ( and Sarah) and Samuel Bayles (Baylis?) and Mary moved from
norther Virginia to eastern (soon to be) Tennessee. I find land records
in Washinton Co., TN for Wm Nodding as early as 1784 (Deed Book 1, pg
266). While I find an interesting court entry involving William Calvert
in 1782, the first land record I have found is 1789 (Deed Book 4, pg
118).
The 1782 entry is in the Minutes of the Court of Pleas and
Quartersessions 4 Nov 1782. Wm Calvert vs James Feard : Hebert Laws
of Jno Calvert Dec'd, Inquiry
The plaintif was awarded 50 pounds.
Thus the elusive John Calvert must have died before 1782. I have only
looked in Washington Co. Are there records in other east Tennessee
Counties that pertain to these Calverts?
William Calvert's son John was born 19 Oct 1781. I have not yet
estabilished where his parents were living at the time -
Maryland/Virginia, Tennessee, or enroute between?
