I've got no financial interest in this at all, but think it can be a real
boon to those of us looking for information about ancestors who emigrated
from Europe and not the English speaking islands.
I upgraded my version of Eudora Light email yesterday and found that it has
a freeware Plug-in called Easy Translator available which is able to do
automatic computer translation to and from English, French, German, and
Spanish. It works wonderfully!!!! (the Mac vesion isn't out yet, but will
be presently) Just highlight the section to translate, and click!
For those who want to participate in Roots-style mailing lists from other
nations this program can be extremely useful. The manufacturer's notes say
that due to nuances in colloquialisms and variety of meanings to some words
and phrases, the program should be considered 60% to 70% accurate in
translations, but even with the translating errors the "gist" of the
message will get through just fine. I tried it out on a relative who is
fluent in Spanish and the feedback was excellent.
Just thought I'd pass the word along.
