Hi Carol,
I'm looking at the book on the Calvert family right now. The title is
Descendants of Virginia Calverts compiled by Ella Foy 0"Gorman. I ordered the
book from:
Higginson Book Company
148 Washington Street
P.O. Box 778
Salem, Massachusetts 01970
ph. #508-745-7170
If you order one, they print it on demand so you will have to wait at least 6
weeks. Tell them that you saw it offered on sale in Everton's Genealogical
Helper Magazine for $64. If you don't, they will charge you $109.
Now, can anyone out there help me find the parents of William Calvert (or
Colvard) who is mentioned on p. 703?
It's not known when William was born, possibly Henrico County, Virginia. He
Married Temperence Butterworth who married 2ndly Warham Easley after Williams
death in 1745 in Chesterfield County, Virginia.
O'Gorman states "It is possible that William Calvert was the son of John
Calvet or Calvert to whom was granted 100 acres of land on the south side of
James River in Henrico County, VA. 30th Apr., 1714, taken out of a survey of
258 acres surveyed for Mr. John Pleasants. (Land Grant Book 10, pg. 125.) It
is also possible but hardly probable that he was the William (no. 19) son of
the Hon. William Calvert (no. 14) of St. Mary's and Charles Counties,
Maryland. This William (no. 14) was born 1643 in England and drowned in
Wicomico River, in Charles County, Maryland in May of 1682. He married
Elizabeth Stone.
Issue of William Calvert (or Colvard) and Temperence Butterworth:
1. Benjamin Calvert or Colvard b. abt 1735; m. Susannah (Holland?)
2. William Calvert or Colvard b. abt. 1737; m. Mary Mercy Holland
3. Thomas Calvert or Colvard b. abt 1739; nothing further
4. John Butterworth Calvert or Colvard m. Judith Merryman, of Cumberland Co.,
Virginia, Dec. 25, 1762. She was the daughter of John Merryman and a Ms.
Pleasants, who was the daughter of John Pleasants, the same mentioned above.
Any and all help is deeply appreciated.
