Dear Calvert Study,
Vicki Kay and I finally met in person last
Saturday in Chaplin, KY. (For newcomers
Vicki Kay Calvert Spencer is one of the
original co-founders of the study group.)
Vicki Kay is even nicer in person than she is
online. This was a special occasion. We were at
the place where our Calvert ancestors moved
following the Revolutionary War.
Vicki and I descend from a Thomas Calvert who
with his brother Richard K. Calvert moved to
Chaplin in 1795. They were accompanied by their
wives and their mother Sarah Calvert Doyle (who
had remarried following the death of her husband
Rueben Calvert). Thomas Calvert is our common
g...grandfather.
We visited Charles Calvert and his wife Paulene,
who still live on lands that were part of the
original Calvert homestead. (Charles is listed as
#4313 in the Descendants of Virginia Calverts by
Ella Foy O'Gorman.)
Unfortunately, it rained the entire time we were
there. This kept us in the car most of the time,
however we did manage to travel throughout the
area. Also, Vicki has collected some important
documents from the Courthouse.
We finished off the day with lunch in nearby Bloomfield,
KY. This is where Richard K. Calvert eventually
settled and lived to the ripe old age of 87 years
old.
Our get together was a lot of fun and my Jean
enjoyed meeting Vicki just as much as I did. Next
week, Jean and I will be in North Carolina. I
will be off-line until we return.
George Calvert
