Amen, Christi,
Also be careful of what Aunt Susie says she remembers Great Uncle John saying. Put that
in your speculative file until the evidence is there. A lot of us have egg on our faces
from following these kinds of stories.
Our recent discoveries in DNA have led us to believe certain lineages are correct.
However, we still list these findings as speculative and give our reasons for believing
them to be true when we publish them. I, myself, would give a nickle--I'm cheap--to
find a will for Thomas Calvert and Sarah Williamson Calvert.

Not to rain on your parade, but please, please be very careful in what you
choose to use from any non-sourced information on the internet. There are many,
many places online with information you can find on your ancestors which have no
basis in fact for the information provided. Many beginning researchers do just
as Neva has suggested and don't take the time to verify sources for anything,
choosing to believe that if it's posted it must be true. I speak from
experience as I was one of those when I first began my research many years ago.
But unless there are records to back up the information you find (sources such
as birth/death records, church records, census records, etc.) take what you see
with a grain of salt. Since becoming more serious about source finding, I have
created two versions of my database...one with unproven information I have
collected, as a "speculative" database and the other with carefully researched
information, sources included...
I just want to give the warning and try and keep others from making the same
mistakes I did... It took a lot of work (and is, in fact still ongoing many
years later!) to try and clear up what can be proved and what cannot. And while
it's fun to look at the unproven information, most of it cannot be taken with
more than a grain of salt...
