Hi,
I couldn't help but pick up on the surnames here....I kept looking for the punch line
to WV and Greene Co, PA--my Calvert ancestors hail from that area and the Brocks and
Calverts were tied together as kin families. Alas, nothing showed and I find your Milford
was an orphan Calvert.
I wouldn't give up hope there though...
Odd too my Calverts followed the oil biz to IL and OK
etc, my grandfather among those breaking ground in Indian Territory Wild Horse and
Bigheart etc. He was b 1876 and mother was his youngest surviving child by his 4th or 5th
marriage b 1922.
As far as relations that are involved in the IT or proving who was what if you are working
on this, the Melungeon discussion boards can be very helpful...you might type in your
surname or multiple names in search argument and see what you come up with. At
gen.com
melungeon board, I and another researcher also post quite a bit on Calverts..that is sort
of my home board so to speak.
AC married Amanda Sylvesta Rose who was of Robert Marsh and Amanda Lawson who came from
Wilks Lawson and wife ELizabeth Martin from Hawkins Co TN...that is my Indian connection
still unproven though. Wilkersons second wife was niece of his first wife, Mahala Lawson.
William Tandy, her son via this marriage applied to the Cherokee for his mother so that is
one tie that I do have. Here are some of the related surnames if that is important: Lawson
Martin Rose Hall Pendergraft(sic) Manes(Manis(s)) and some of these families are proven
melungeon one in particular 4th cousin Mahan (Manes) ancestors are clearly Melungeon
within the same family group at least by my judgement and that of others by looking at the
photos...
Arthur Calvert was b WV 1876 to John Ewing and Martha Lemasters, John the Son of Albert
Gallatin b 1830 m Mary Cain. He was the son and grand son of Thomas Jr m Elizabeth Johnson
and Thomas Sr b 1769 m Anna Ewing. TC Sr's father was Isaac Calvert of Greene Co PA b
1747 circa whom I have been unable to find a birth locale or ancestor in all my searching
though I have possible tracks --he went that away or this away...
There are Calverts whom I have worked on that end up in the areas of AR/OK/MO as well. I
have seen Milford discussed before elsewhere or was it WIlford. I will look in my notes
and see if I can find anything... Do you have an inkling of the spelling Colbert anywhere
mentioned?
Also, I am coordinating the Calvert DNA project at FT/DNA. If you have a male of Calvert
descent would you ask if they would participate in the study?
Regards,
David Bell
