Justin Houser researched a couple of deeds in Centre County PA for
me. These are his findings:
"From the first deed, the following facts appear:
David Barr had two tracts:
(1) called Klinesberry, part of land coneyed by John Vuaghn to David
Barr on 1 Dec 1802, which was duly Patented
David Barr conveyed the same to Hugh S. Thompson on 24 May 1827
Hugh S. Thompson conveyed it to Sarah M. Thompson and George W.
Thompson on 21 Aug 1828
(2) Surveyed to Robert Barr on 4 Dec 1822, transferred to David Barr
on 29 Jan 1829
Patented to David Barr on 24 December 1829
David Barr sold it to Sarah & Geo. W. Thompson on 12 Apr 1830
(Hugh Thompson & wife assigning all their interest in and to said
lands to Geo. W. Thompson)
Geo. W. Thompson sold it to John Hasson on 10 Nov 1830
The recital stops there, not indicating how J. L. Calvert of Altoona
came to possess the land which he sold to W. W. Leech on 4 April 1889.
From the second deed, we learn that:
J. L. and Maria Calvert sold the above land to W. W. Leech, father
of Maria Calvert, on 4 April 1889, as above
W. W. Leech and William P. Hasson, Executors of the John Hasson
Estate, sold it to J. L. Calvert on 4 April 1889
Maria Calvert and J. L. Calvert of Altoona sell to John H. Leech on
6 Oct 1900 their half interest in said property.
I can only guess that Leech & Hasson, as executors, sold part of the
Hasson land to Calverts (1889), which they then conveyed back to
Leech, who then died(?), and Maria then sells any remaining right to
a brother, perhaps?
As far as an estate goes, it must be the estate of John Hasson that
is of relevance here. Do you wish me to search it out?"
That is the end of Justin's findings: The land in question is in
Volume 59, page 112 and Volume 83, page 206 Grantor's Index for
Centre County, PA .
These are not of my lineage. Someone may recognize the people
involved.
