Beloved Woman Dies After Long Ilness
Mrs. Clara FOWLER CALVERT, wife of P. J. CALVERT, Dresden, died Monday morning at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd ELMORE in Memphis, following a protracted illnes of many
year's duration, through which she uncomplainingly bore her suffering with fortitude
and faith. She was beloved by all who knew her in what seemed to be more than her share of
misfortune in ill health.
Mrs. CALVERT had spent much of her time in bed and in hospitals, but God in his wisdom
gathered her home in eternal sleep at the age of 59. She was a devoted mother, good wife
and neighbor, and enjoyed a host of friends whereever she was known. She had resided in
Dresden for many years.
Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist Church, Dresden, Wednesday
afternoon by the pastor, Wednesday afternoon, by the pastor, Dr. Fred WOOD, assisted by
Paul ISABELL and Rev. T. N. HALE, with burial in Sunset Cemetery, Bowlin & Riggs in
charge of arrangements.
Surviving are her husband, P. J. CALVERT; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd ELMORE, Memphis; Mrs.
Carroll PITTS, Martin; two sons, Ulane CALVERT, Indianapolis, and James CALVERT, Dresden.
Also four brothers, Arlen FOWLER, Detroit; Lawrence FOWLER, Knoxville; Thomas E. FOWLER,
Paducah; and Coleman FOWLER, Dyersburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas McFARLAND, Gleason;
and Mrs. Lela WILSON, Martin, survive along with three grandchildren.
