I, too, am skeptical of Nicklin's work. However, as to Sytha Elizabeth
Harrison, Nicklin states his source of the marriage from private records
of the Harrison family and then, goes on-see Harrison note.
Having looked through this article, "George Calvert (1700-1771) and some
of his Descendents (1731-1931),[apparently, this is part II] there is no
Harrison note. The last page does say "To be continued". One would
therefore assume, there is further indication of his source in the later
article.
However, I do not have a copy of it.

Ok, before this goes any further, please let me say a few words... First
off, one of the list rules is:
6. If you have a problem with another list member, please do not post to
the list but rather send email to the listowner (christib(a)satx.rr.com) and
we will handle it off list. Flaming is NOT allowed and any persons
responsible for on-list flaming will have their posting ability immediately
removed.
SO, that said, this should not even be discussed on the list but rather
handled off-list by myself and those involved. Since it has been addressed
however, I want to explain that I believe that George was simply stating his
distrust of Nicklin as a source, not accusing anyone of anything. His
comment about "conspiring" was (most likely) meant sarcastically in that it
is very unlikely that those three persons conspired to create the deed in
question. Like you, Beverly, I believe that ALL second hand (and further
removed) sources should be checked against first hand documents whenever
possible. I believe George was pointing out that O'Gorman has SHOWN a first
hand source (the deed) whereas Nicklin has not (that I know of). That is
not to say that it is not possible he (Nicklin) is correct, just that at
this time there is no proof of that. I agree that occasionally we all tend
to have our own "favorite" sources and sometimes we trust in them to the
exclusion of all else, but, while O'Gorman is frequently cited as source on
this list (sometimes to the annoyance of some of us), it is NOT the only
source, only the most widely accepted one. I think we all need to keep in
mind, when speaking of ANY second hand sources, that they are ALL that,
unless hard proof is available as in this case. We also need to keep in
mind, when posting to the list, that some of the folks on this list are
either new to the Calvert line, new to genealogy or just have never heard of
the O'Gorman book and we need to be mindful of that when posting our
responses. We were all new at one time or another and need to keep that in
mind. So, I ask that we all take a deep breath, step back and consider
that, when it comes to genealogy, unless you have a first hand document,
EVERYTHING must be proven to be correct or incorrect.
Please do not reply on the list to this email, but if you feel the need to
discuss this further, please address it to my personal email address of
christib(a)satx.rr.com Thank you!
