To Richard Calvert:
By strange coincidence my name is Charles Calvert and I live very close to
Fort Trumbull - which is actually located within the city of Groton, CT. I
moved here a little over a year ago - my line is from the Caldwell County, KY
Calvert's.
I can do a little checking on the exact history of Ft. Trumbull - I know it
was established as a fort by the colonists during the Revolutionary War and
the famous betrayal by Benedict Arnold took place there. I don't know how
long it remained an active fort - the original earthern walls remain and
today it is a state park commenorating the most famous battle within
Connecticut.
However, although your ancestor may have lived in - or maybe more precisely
around Fort Trumbull - it doesn't necessarily mean he was in the military.
Even today it refers to a general area of Groton that has been settled since
Revolutionary times.
I'll let you know what I find out.
Charlie Calvert
