Sandra,
Thanks for following on. I would encourage you to find a Male Calvert in your family line
and more than one if possible, especially if it is an adjacent line.
THe Calvert project now has more than 30 participants and we are moving closer to 40
samples soon. I had hoped to obtain
50 within the first year of the project and we still may very well make the goal -- To
make this work and to tie families together, we need each family seeking ancestry and even
especially those who are proven lines, to participate in the study, the latter group
providing the baseline of known factors to which others can then compare and work on
missing links.
We have groups of Calverts who match and several who are still seeking matches. My own
line matches 3 other participants and we are now in need of the following family lines to
prove or disprove connection:
Descendants of the Armagh Calverts from the various lines. It appears that my ancestry
stems from Thomas Calvert b1716, son of Joshua who married Deborah Harlan. We have two
other researchers looking to get their family DNA in progress which should tell us quite
a bit which would include the family lines of Jacob Calvert, John Calvert b 1766(We still
need a male from this line to pariticpate) both of origins that appear to be John Calvert
of Mifflin County, hence also, Isaac Calvert of Greene County PA(My line), John Calvert
of Frederick County VA, and others from John Calvert of Ireland.
Cornelius Calvert and the Lancaster, Lancashire UK Calverts.
Nicholas Calvert of the same.
William Calvert of 1757 m Elizabeth Nodding.
Alexander, Alexander Neal, Levin, William Calvert b 1745/6, Isaac Calvert b 1747, Isaac
Calvert living adult in records 1724,
Levin Calvert, William Calvert and George Calvert b before 1725,
and John Calvert b 1708 all in SOmerset County MD or Kent Co and I believe the Johh
Calvert 1708 lived in Baltimore 100,
Somerset...another John Calvert trapper/barber living in Kent at about the same time.
These are not my families but I believe they are descended from
William Calvert b 1766 unpursued(polite reference) by Nicklin and others. I believe this
William married a Robinson as is proved by court records in that he was alive in 1797. I
believe he is the father of William Calvert b abt 1790. This latter WIlliam of Record 1726
and 33 court records and 1730-40 taxlist Somerset along with Levin George and John. Isaac
abt 1724 appears to be related. It is my opinion that descendants of any of these Calverts
will match the existing group of 9 Calverts and Colberts who match DNA and descend from
Prince William County Calverts(of George Calvert b 1668's line).
Another factor is that the children of Robert Doyne are involved--both in Stafford(Prince
WIlliam), and Somerset. Ethylbert Doyne owned land and estate in Somerset and died there.
His brothers Jesse and Joshua are listed in his estate/will and this is the direct
connection to Calverts of Stafford, St. Mary's and Charles county thus it is my
opinion of the same Calverts as that of George 1668.
Ethylbert's wife died before the estate was closed and it was settled by the family
attorney in Charles County MD abt 1725.
There is a lot more data out there which I have only begun to uncover but which, I believe
is important to Calvert families descended from the Lords Baltimore and very likely
William Calvert b 1642 and younger brother Richard b 1669. Another linke to the latter is
the descent of Robert Calvert of Calvert Texas who migrated to AR before TX and came From
TN.
Last but not least are the lines related in Dewel Lott's book, Our Calvert Kin. We
have 3 samples from this grouping but one of them doesn't match the late Gaston
Calvert who died in September and was among the first participants in the DNA study.
Gaston's widow, Kenneith, a very lovely lady, has been very encouraging despite
berievement and her daughter will be digging into more of this line.
I encourage all to join in, and get a Calvert male of your family line (or as many as
possible adjacent) to participate).
We also have a Calvert_Genealogy Yahoo group for participant sharing and discussion. It
appears in addition to Calvert, we will be spinning off a Colbert project. It is also
possible that this will occur for Colvert as well. I wish to note that the Harris Surname
project has been existent for quite some time and a Harrison group has also started. If
you think you are a Calvert Alias Harrison Alias Harris, please contact me or one of the
adminstrators for these family surnames.
Regards to all
