I have information of the Calvert family dating back to 500 BCE with Lugh XI of the
O'Drisscol Clan of Baltimore Ireland. If you wish to go down the rabbit hole, contact
me but hold on to your breeches, it is an interesting ride.

From the Philly Inquirer. Don't know if we have any relatives
on-list or
not, but thought I'd post since I saw it...

I am interested, particularly in knowing to which Calverts you are referring. The Lord
Baltimore line presumably came from Belgium and the first Lord Baltimore did spend time in
Ireland. Some of his daughters married into Irish families.
Other cousins (there were numerous Calvert families in the Ridings in England in the 17th
century, but very difficult to sort out) may also have married into Irish fammillies.
Where did you get all this information?

The ancestors (and descendents) of John Calvert b.1756 Nottingham England. I am a direct
descendant, number 224th born in the United States. The information I have is from
several combined sources, over 30 years of research. "The Calverts of Williamsport,
Pennsylvania" compiled by Leslie Calvert Search (and others). A letter addressed to
my grandfather starting out "To the heirs of Lord Baltimore" dated March 15th
1924. Research from the colony of Avalon, New Foundland and Avalon - Glastenberry
England. Hence the phrase "The Great Habitation of Bel." "Dun Na
Sead". What would you like to know?

Fascinating, do the ancestors of John, b 1756, harken back to Leonard Calvert, of Danby
Wiske.
The letter, To the Heirs of Lord Baltimore, 1924, refers, I believe, to court case
involving the Chenowith line and which was unsuccessful.
I would also like to know more of the Williamsport Calverts, as most of the 18th century
Calverts with which I am familiar are in Maryland and Virginia, and points West.
I would also like to know the connection with the O'Driscolls of Baltimore, Ireland.
Having done an exhaustive search to determine why Lord Baltimore chose that particular
name, I came to the conclusion that we will never know. Even Dr. Krugler, the author of
"English and Calvert: Sir George and Sir Cecil Calvert", wasn't able to
enlighten me on the subject. Sir George did buy property in County Wicklow, but I was
unable to find that he was at all involved in County Cork.
