I am just starting on the Calvert family. I am
looking for the ancestry of a Robert W. Calvert,

their known children are:
Constantine Calvert, b. about 1836; John O. b,
about 1838; William O., b.
18 Jun 1844; Mary J. b. about 1846; Sarah E.,
b. 9 Oct 1848; Margaret A.
b. about 1852; and Robert L. b, 12 Feb 1853.
Any information regarding
this family and the ancestors of Robert W. would
be appreciated. Everyone
have a wonderful holiday.
Joyce,
Robert W. Calvert, born 25 Dec 1811 in
Culpeper County, Virginia. He was the eldest
child of Jesse Calvert and his wife Levicy Rea.
Jesse Calvert married Levicy Rea in Culpeper
County, Oct. 5, 1810. They were in Fayette
County, Ky. by 1823, when Jesse wrote a letter
(dated March 3, 1823) to his brother John
Calvert in Culpeper Co.
There is a lot of information about this line of the
Calverts. Robert W. Calvert is #1108 in Ella Foy
O'Gorman's "Descendants of Virginia Calverts".
Robert is in the 10th generation since George
Calvert, the 1st Lord Baltimore. His line of
descendant is -Robert W.(10th), Jesse (9th),
George (8th), George(7th), George(6th),
John(5th), George(4th), William (3rd), Leonard
(2nd), George(1st).
Written proof that George(4th) was truly the son
of William (3rd) is lacking. The connection back
to Lord Baltimore is by tradition and custom; not
by documented written evidence. The remainder
of the family from George (4th) to Robert W.
(and beyond) is well established.
George(5th) and his son George(6th) were both
Captains in the Rev. War. George(5th) was
known as George Calvert, Jr. When Benedict
Arnold invaded Virginia in 1781, George
Calvert, Jr. was called to the colors and
commissioned a Captain of the Culpeper Co.
Militia on May 19, 1781 by Thomas Jefferson,
Gov. of Virginia. He was past 70 years of age at
the time of his commission.
This is not my line of the Calvert clan, however
there are others in the group who descend from
George Calvert, Jr. George is clearly the name
of choice for the Calverts, and I am almost
embarrassed to sign this.
George Calvert
