Rosa,
Spencer was a cousin of Reuben Calvert, my
ancestor. Spencer and Reuben served in the
3rd Virginia Regiment. I am not searching for
Calverts in Caldwell Co.; however I was very
interested at the mention of "Kirkland Calvert".
This was in the early post:
" He told me the father of Spencer Calvert was Kirkland
Calvert. That Spencer was disinherited because he had
been a revolutionary soldier etc."
Spencer was definitely the son of "William
Calvert" as proven by Court records in Mason
County, Ky; ; however it is also absolutely clear
that the Calverts and Kirklands inter-married. In
fact, Spencer Calvert's grandfather, George
Calvert, was the Administrator of Richard
Kirkland's estate with his 2nd wife Esther
(Kirkland?) Calvert.
If you have any documents pertaining to the
Kirkland -Calvert relationship, I would be
interested. This could help clear up a lot of
confusion. Also, another associated name from
South Carolina and Virginia is "Harrison". The
Harrison were originally "Calverts", and
changed their name due to some long forgotten
dispute.
George Calvert
