Kathleen writes,
I am a little confused on our Calvert lineage. Is
this "Wild Bill" part of our line or not? I've seen
several items about him on the calvert mailing
list.
Wild Bill or William Mansfield Calvert's family
line is -William Mansfield (9th), John Thompson
(8th), Spencer (7th), William (6th), George (5th),
George (4th), William (3rd), Leonard (2nd), and
finally George (1st) -who was the first Lord
Baltimore. The numbering above matches the
generations beginning with the 1st Lord
Baltimore as given in "Descendants of Virginia
Calverts" by Ella Foy O'Gorman. (The Mary E.
Foy mentioned in other messages was Ella's
cousin who began researching the Calvert
family in the early 1900's)
George (of the 4th generation) settled in
Stafford Co., Va. around 1688. His descendants
-George (5th), William (6th) and Spencer (7th)
were all born in northern Virginia (Stafford and
Pr. William Counties).
Spencer Calvert a Rev. War soldier left Virginia
after the war and moved to South Carolina and
then to western Kentucky. His father, William
(6th) moved to eastern Kentucky (Mason Co.)
All of this is well document.
There is a "missing link", namely "written proof"
that George (of the 4th generation) was truly a
son of William Calvert (3rd gen.), who lived in
Charles Co. Maryland.
