A DAR ceremony marking the grave of Revolutionary War Soldier
Spencer Calvert was held Sat. March 5, 2005 in the Calvert Cemetery in Caldwell Co., Ky.

The Gen. John Caldwell Chapter, NSDAR assisted by the Ohio Valley
Chapter, Indiana Society, SAR Color Guard from Evansville, In., performed the ceremony.
There were numerous descendants in attendance one from as far away as New Jersey.
The number attending was estimated at over 200.
Spencer Calvert was born 1757 in Prince William Co., Va. to William & Hannah Calvert,
descendants of the Lord Baltimore Calverts, founders of Maryland.
Spencer died May 10, 1839 in Caldwell Co., Ky. and was
buried in the Calvert Cemetery northwest of Princeton, Ky.
During the Revolution he served three terms, he was a Private and Sergeant serving under
Captain Britt, Captain Valentine Peyton's Company, 3rd Virginia Regiment, Col. Jesse
Ewell, and General Nathaniel Green.
He was at the winter encampment at Valley Forge of Gen. George Washington's army the
terrible winter of 1877-78. Spencer was with General Nathaniel Greene in the Carolina
Campaign 1780-1781.
He was also at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina.
