Hi all. I am so excited. I received email from a granddaughter of one of my
great aunts. This is the first contact that I've with anyone from this line.
I know you all know how exciting this is. I am sending her 2 messages and
will tell her abt the Calvert list. Vicki K. Calvert Spencer

Will I assume we are related since William Culbertson Calvert is my
great-grandfather. His daughter Zilphia (Zelpha) is my grandmother. My
father, Franklin Roosevelt Mitchell, is the child of Zilphia and James L.
Mitchell that was not listed among her children. James Mitchell along with
two other brothers who were the children of James L. Mitchell from a
previous marriage. I am in the process of obtaining more information about
these children and the Mitchell side of the family.
Presently, I am attending Morgan State University in Baltimore where I am
beginning research for my thesis. My thesis is going to be about our family
that follows the bloodline of Governor Leonard Calvert of Maryland. It's
funny because I only recently learned about the history of our family. I
was never told anything about our family and was I ever surprised about the
historically significant family from which I come.
One particular reason I am e-mailing you is because I need to know where you
obtained your information. In writing my thesis I have to document all of
my information so I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me.
Hoping to hear from you soon. If possible send your phone number and I'll
give you a call.

I am so glad to hear from you. I would appreciate any information you might
have all the way back to Governor Leonard Calvert. My thesis is going to
touch on Leonard and the Calverts in Virginia but then I am going to focus
on the Calverts in Kentucky.
If you know of any sources that you can share, please, e-mail them to me. I
need all of the help I can get so I can complete my thesis and graduate in
May.
I thought maybe you would to know something about my side of the family.
Grandma Zilphia Etolia Mitchell married James L. Mitchell who was from
Indiana. It is very possible that Grandpa Mitchell was the son of James L.
Mitchell who was an officer in the Union Army. If so, then James L.
Mitchell was born in Shelby Co., KY moved to Indianapolis where he practiced
law, served as a Senator and the mayor of Indianapolis.
This information has not been totally proved so it will have to wait until
later. Right now it have to focus on the Calverts so I can finish my
thesis.
I have lots of other information about Grandma that I will get to later
after I have organized it. I am dying to talk to you became after my
thesis, I'll eventually be working on my dissertation. In that I will cover
the rest of the family to present-day. So I will need a lot of help from
anyone that is willing.
E-mail me and let me know when you will be at the phone number you gave me
then I will call.
I am so glad to get to know members of my family. I was either never told
about my family or since my accident I forgot anything that I had been told.
Seventeen years ago I was severely injured when I was 34 and here I am today
at 51 studying for a doctorate.
It is difficult but I am determined to work again. When I was studying for
my BA at the University of Louisville I realized that I was too old for many
occupations but there was one area where I could work until I dropped dead
in the halls and that was in academia. So I decided that when I am finished
I am going to go back and teach at U of L.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cousin Elizabeth Lynn Mitchell
