Dennis,
If you have the DNA, could you provide me with the report on the markers? Which
Jim(James?). Is this at FT/DNA Calvert study?
I have your general line but if you have a report that you could send, it would be a real
big help...The problem is, which Jesse Calvert as I think other families have mixed up
whom is whom.
Okay. Larry Colbert's DNA and ties:
Larry is Descended from John Colbert who married Catherine Lynn. I estimate John's
birthdate, say 1780 - 93 based upon the Census data. He buys land and copy of the deed
show he is Calvert --this PW Co VA. He later sells and moves to Fayette County PA. Now the
Calverts are all over here...My line and at least two others. Also these families go to
Tyler Co VA, Belmont OH and so on. Mine end up in Wetzel WV before OH and south to places
like MO, KY and OK.
Larry's DNA matches a Calvert in the George Calvert of 1668 family Descent. I do not
yet know which Calvert line this associated DNA Calvert relative is...but I think it is
George Calvert b 1694. We also have other Colberts involved who will be taking the test.
One a descendent of Jesse Colbert Sr who was in Mason Co KY went to OH and back to KY.
There is a Jesse up in IN also and this Jesse is the one who is getting mixed up families
in family reports. There may indeed be a third.
What is needed now is DNA to compare to whom has taken the DNA Sample at the present
Calvert DNA study at FT/DNA. If it is one of the Jim's great. If not, we get another
DNA sample to go with what we already have.
I am creating a file at the associated Yahoo Group and also I can invite you to join. This
file will contain the summary of ancestry in this email but if you can send a descent
report, even better.
Regards,
dai

David,
Thank you for you immediate reply. We have had a cousin, Jim Calvert,
take the DNA test and it told him that he was related to John Colbert.
I would have had the test taken, but I am not a Calvert.
Our known ancestry is as follows:
Jesse Calvert - born abt 1815
married Pamelia Smith on Feb 13, 1834 in Campbell Co., KY
Benjamin Rotan Calvert - born Nov 30, 1835
married Marinda Boone on October 19, 1856 in Campbell Co., KY
died May 16, 1892
buried Lenoxburg Cemetery, Bracken Co., KY
After years of research, another BR Calvert descendant and myself
concluded that Jesse Calvert (born abt 1815) was the son of Jesse
Calvert and Charlotte Sanders. Jesse Jr. appears as # 1009 in the Ella
O'Gorman book and his father is # 365. We were shocked, to say the
least, to find out that our research was way-off.
You mentioned that Larry was related to both John Colbert and George
Calvert. Could this also be true of Jim Calvert, our cousin? Also,
what is the Yahoo group?
Thank you for any help that you could give. Dennis

Hi Dennis,
John Colbert is a Calvert. He purchased land in 1810 and signed his name this way. He
later moved to Fayette County PA just across the Monongahela River from my Calverts in
Greene County. Larry Colbert, John's descendant has taken the FT/DNA test and matched
both a Colbert and a Calvert. The Calvert to which his DNA matched is a descendant of
George Calvert born 1668. There has been a flurry of activity in the past 5 days related
to this and other events. I have a Calvert_Genealogy Yahoo Group which supports the
Calvert DNA study at FT/DNA.
I encourage you to participate(a male Colbert of your ancestry) in the DNA study which I
and Beth Calvert Co-Coordinate.
If you wish, you may contact me via email or phone. Let me know if you wish to enroll a
family member in the DNA study or sign up for the Yahoo group.
